Truck Driver Instructor
Responsible for training dock employees to become driver qualified through the Dock to Driver Training Program. Selects dock to driver candidates from selection of the qualified employees for acceptance into the program, monitors and instructs employees while in training, tests each employee to insure they are trained and equipped to meet the company standards for a driving position. Follows established curriculum and training guidelines, time line bench marks and maintain written evaluation of each driver trainee's progress. Sets up driver testing for each trainee when the trainee has achieved all required knowledge and skills as outlined in the curriculum. The Driver Instructor must be knowledgeable in CDL requirements, changes in the regulations and working knowledge of Federal Motor Carriers Safety Regulations as well as state laws. The Driver Instructor must be able to demonstrate their knowledge of road safety, truck safety, and inspections as well as knowledge of current state and federal laws and regulations. As with any instruction position, the instructor must be able to maintain a professional and patient attitude. Test drive, capable of performing pre-trip and post-trip inspections, range maneuvers and four-point brake test, and of operating a tractor trailer safely around other vehicles. Instructor will have the ability to transpose teaching by example on the range and on the road before a student is allowed to drive. The Instructor will be considered a commercial driver and will need to maintain a current CDL, DOT physical and a clear MVR. The successful candidate will possess the following attributes:
* Minimum 5 years tractor trailer driving experience
* Maintains Class A CDL with hazmat and doubles/triples endorsements
* Strong general working knowledge of DOT rules and regulations
* Strong knowledge of FMCSA Compliance, Safety & Accountability Program (CSA)
* Knowledge of the Smith System 5 Keys to Space Cushion Driving
* Must have experience with conducting formal training
* Must possess excellent written and oral presentation skills including a demonstrated ability to write reports, develop and complete evaluation forms, and other routine correspondence.
* Must be experienced in handling multiple assignments and meeting deadlines.
* Must be able to travel as needed.
* Must have experience with employee training, mentoring and coaching
* Computer literate (Word, Excel, Email)
