Financial Control Manager

Job purpose:
The Financial Control Manager contributes in achieving the global SOX404/Novartis internal NFCM (Novartis Financial Control Manual) standards, through definition and implementation of best in class internal controls throughout the legal entity Novartis Pharma Services (NPhS). NPhS is exporting/distributing pharmaceutical products into more than 80 countries around the world and includes 40 representation/branch offices mainly located in the Middle East, Easter Europe, Africa and CIS. Continuous improvements of the processes will lead to cross-functional project work to enhance the efficiency and/or the control environment.

Major responsibilities:
- Contribute to the SOX404/NFCM implementation for Basel Headquarters. Monitor the adherence to the defined internal control steps and execute the testing.
- Perform country/in-market visits at the representation/branch offices to review the local operations and validate the financial data submission as well as to promote good accounting & purchasing practice and strong internal controls.
- Support and develop the NFCM responsibles at the representation/branch offices and coordinate with Corporate Financial Control the yearly scope.
- Assist the Head Financial Control & Project Portfolio in establishing and continuously assessing the country risk matrix and implement corrective measures.
- Coordinate the country visits performed with the different departments/regions and review the progress of agreed remediation plan/action points.
- Actively support/implement enhancements to processes and systems, in order to streamline operations and/or strengthen internal controls and lead projects as defined.
- Enhance the NPhS intranet page, being the communication platform towards the countries defining the processes.
- Perform balance sheet reviews of representation/branch offices by using SAP AiO.
Minimum requirements    Education:
- Minimum: University degree in Finance or Eco-nomics or equivalent.
- Desirable: CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CIA (Certified Internal Auditor)

- Minimum 4 years experience in Finance and/or Auditing role.
- Sound understanding of accounting principles and processes.
- Experience in internal controls.
- Good general IT understanding.
- SAP R/3 or SAP AiO knowledge.
- Appreciation of tax questions.
- People and project management experience to drive change (change management).
- Multi-cultural familiarity (i.e. Eastern Europe, Middle East, CIS and Africa).
- Willingness to travel to countries

- Fluent in English.
- Other languages desirable e.g. French, Arabic or Russian
- German (for Basel) would be an asset.
