Accounting Specialist

The Accounting Specialist manages the processes of the Novartis Group entities, ensuring quality and effectiveness of the processes, securing company assets by applying tight controls in the financial transactions, while providing accurate financial information and timely reporting of balances.

This role ensures that systems and documentation are in place and actively contributes continuous improvement projects to provide highly effective and efficient end-to-end processes to the Novartis divisions.

- Supports transition regarding knowledge transfer

- Provides services at expected levels with a clear customer service & escalates exceptions

- Interacts proactively with all functional areas of the FSC to ensure appropriate accounting, financial reporting & settlement of revenue matters is accomplished

- Coordinate with local entity, FSC & outsourced activities

Manage day-to-day activities:

- Perform the balance sheet account reconciliations of allocated accounts, ensure timely resolution & clean of overdue items identified - Proactively review accounts to ensure all financial transactions are valid & recorded to ensure accuracy of reported data

- Assures correct valuation of all assets & liabilities

- Review/record requested company cross-charges & manual journal entries to ensure proper recording in accounts

- Issue manual invoices as requested by other functions & assess validity

- Ensure proper accounting of financial transactions/accounting specific questions are well addressed & solved

- Prepare period end & financial reporting in accordance with local laws & Novartis required standards - Perform the income tax/deferred tax calculations in collaboration with Group Swiss Tax to allow period end financial reporting

- Ensure the creation & maintenance of adequate accounting records to meet the requirements of local laws/Novartis required standards

- Proactively challenge the Status Quo

- Corresponds to internal & external inquiries

- Actively support FSC working style being inclusive, proactive, respectful, & results driven in alignment with Novartis V&B

- Act service oriented to enable service lines to deliver a high- performing organization & contribute to derive to standard solutions Compliance:

- Ensure all processes, policies, procedures are clearly defined & fully documented - Ensure compliance with NAM, NFCM & regulatory requirements

- Ensure application of agreed Novartis control procedures & actively support to deliver SOX certification

- Promote a strong/control environment, follow up on audit issues & implement correcting measures
Minimum requirements    - Certified Finance/Accounting specialist or similar degree German / English; French preferred - 2-4 plus years of Financial experience, with good functional expertize - Project Management exposure advantageous - SAP knowledge
