Senior Software Engineer in DevOps

Netflix is growing and adding movie streaming subscribers at an unprecedented rate. We are also constantly expanding our catalog of new movies and TV shows, which is growing rapidly with our international expansion. We are processing an ever growing volume of media content and are leveraging Cloud Computing platforms to run our large-scale massively parallelized infrastructure.

We are looking for a senior level Software Engineer to join a talented group of people working in the Media Pipeline team. This team is responsible for the pipeline of streams released to Netflix subscribers for instant watching.

Challenges in our group never cease. Our systems and software manage the large scale and long running encoding processes end to end. This is a great opportunity to enhance your Cloud Computing skills, and simultaneously gain intimate knowledge of Netflix products and services.

The major responsibilities for the Senior Software Engineer in this team are focused around software development and operational sustenance:

- Tools Development
- Applications Workflow Development
- Ad Hoc Scripts Development
- Simple UI Development

Required Experience:

- Strong knowledge of shell, Python, Perl, or similar scripting
- Experience with devlopment and administration of applications on Linux/Unix
- Very good SQL knowledge
- At least 7 years of development experience. Prefer 10 or more years.

- Creative and solutions oriented thinking
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to act quickly as a point of contact for application problems / emergencies

Additional Success Factors (not required but very nice to have):

- Experience with coding in Java
- Experience with Cloud Computing Architecture and implementation
- Experience with development for Encoding or Video
- Understanding of the database relational model
- Experience with NoSQL Databases
