Maintenance Mechanic

Merck Animal Health is seeking a highly motivated individual as a Maintenance Mechanic A in the Maintenance and Engineering Department at our Millsboro, DE. Manufacturing and R&D Facilities. The successful candidate will be responsible to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair equipment/systems used in the production and packaging of biologicals and associated utilities and facilities. The candidate will perform calibration/maintenance of process controls and instrumentation, including general maintenance, mechanical, and electrical troubleshooting equipment systems within the plant and the facility.  Responsibilities also include performing preventative maintenance.
 
Responsibilities includes but are not limited to:

    * Directly involvement in the overall maintenance, inspection and repair of highly technical equipment, facilities, and utilities in an Industrial/Production environment.  
    * This position partners with business leaders to ensure Production equipment needs are optimized
    * Responsible for detailed maintenance, calibrations, PMs and troubleshooting of manufacturing equipment.
    * Routine Operations will include Troubleshooting and maintaining process instrumentation and equipment, perform root cause analysis on system failures and substandard equipment performance, using standard problem solving tools and methods to resolve machine and system issues in some cases under aseptic/clean room conditions.
    * Experience in pneumatic and electronic controls, wiring methods, and instrumentation is required.
    * Operate efficiently, all hand/power tools, test instruments and equipment normally used by this trade and maintain/return in good condition.
    * Ability to perform work outside of trade to including general maintenance duties as assigned by Management.
    * Safety requirements are strongly enforced; this individual must be attentive to his/her own safety and the safety of others in the workplace.

 
Qualifications
 
Required Experience and Skills:

    * High school graduate, or equivalent, Vocation or technical school certification
    * Minimum 5 years industrial work experience preferably in the biotech / pharmaceutical GMP manufacturing industry.
    * Experience with process instrumentation and controls, including programmable logic controllers (PLC)
    * Experience with HVAC, Autoclaves, WFI, Freeze Driers, Bioreactors, SIP/CIP
    * Environmental conditions will vary based on job being performed.
    * Work may take place in either the maintenance shop and/or in the plant depending upon the job requirements.
    * Ability to read and interpret blue-prints/schematics in electrical, hydraulics, pneumatics or mechanical
    * Valid driver's license
    * Must be able to meet all physical requirements associated with this job, included but not limited to: lifting/carrying up to 100 lbs.

Desired Experience and Skills:

    * Experience in fast paced  manufacturing environment an advantage
    * Filling /Packaging experience is an advantage.

    * Applicant should have previously demonstrated strong team skills, flexibility, motivation, ability to troubleshoot/problem solve, with a strong emphasis around safety and compliance practices.
    * Maintain computerized records using current maintenance software.
    * Interact with internal customers and external vendors
    * Lean Six Sigma experience a plus
