Vice President
The Vice President of Early Clinical Development manages global ECD operations and operational decisions as we continue to drive process excellence for one global business. Defines, prioritizes, and implements operational service delivery strategies to proactively support and position ECD for growth. Position is accountable for understanding the profit and loss performance of ECD and driving the growth by way of implementing a strategic business plan and actively supporting the sales and marketing of the unit.

Early Clinical Services reflects our focus on providing clients with IND through Proof –Of-Concept (PoC) services.
In addition to 7 Phase 1 units around the world, where we draw upon unmatched FIH/SAD/MAD experience and industry-leading human AME capabilities, we also offer Global PoC services and a dedicated Phase 1 Oncology team to provide solutions to all early phase clinical development needs.

As a Vice President – ECD your daily job duties would include the following:
# Assigns resources as needed to meet the overall objectives and financial budget expectations
# Assigns resources as needed to meet the overall objectives and financial budget expectations
# Identifies and drives strategic expansion opportunities globally
# Inspires confidence in a culturally diverse and global team through a balanced and motivational communication style.
# Works to develop an appropriate and scalable staffing model for global operations.
# Manages global ECD operations and coordinates operation decisions, (i.e. standard equipment purchases, operating procedures, training methods) towards the goal of operating ECD as one global business.
# Provides vision, strategic and tactical planning for the organization to achieve strategic objectives
# Proactively liaises with leaders in Phase I and Phase II/III to ensure integrated drug development and seamless support for clients across business lines,
# including staffing, training, and process harmonization.
# Presents the units capabilities to clients, both at Covance and client sites.
# Proactively develops and manages relationships with ECD support groups.
# Takes a leadership role in problem resolution and corrective action planning across sites.
# Implements growth strategies as defined by the leadership team to support the larger drug development strategies across Covance.
Develops, grows and fosters strategic client alliances by way of partnerships on leadership committees, continuous improvement projects, etc
Education/Qualifications The Required Education for the Vice Preseident – ECD position includes:
# MD, PhD, or Pharm D
# Global Operational Experience
# Business Development Experience
Experience Required Experience/Skills for the Vice President - ECD position includes:
# Minimum of 15 years of progressive and proven leadership responsibilities in clinical research in a healthcare related business environment, CRO, or academic institution.
# A minimum of 7 years proven management experience.
# Extensive experience and in-depth knowledge of the clinical trials field.
# Experience working with early phase clinical research studies preferred.
# Thorough knowledge of drug development process.
# Experience in financial processes, e.g. cost generation; revenue recognition. P&L, work order.
# Demonstrated ability to inspire effective teamwork and motivate staff within a matrix system.
# Travel required with overnight stays 30-40% of the time to attend professional, corporate, and training meetings, fulfill management responsibilities, visit clients, and address cross-site support needs.
