Product Manager

Scope of Position:

This role will primarily be responsible for Cell Culture Media Product Management

Generally this person will become the market expert and coordinate sales, marketing, logistics, and project-related efforts related to all cell culture media products.  They will support commercial aspects of applicable products, including:  product line plan development, marketing programs, promotions, product/quality improvements, product upgrades, product line extensions, new product introductions, and market and customer analysis.    

Responsibilities:

Support the implementation of the global Product Line strategy

    * Contribute to the 3 - 5 year overall strategy for cell culture media business
    * Participate in driving the sales and profitability (SGM, AGM, COM) of relevant product lines
    * Determine annual price adjustments; including list price, dealer cost, in-market pricing guidelines, and provide input for International price levels
    * Manage product line roadmaps and life cycles
    * Manage the product line quality and critical attribute process for applicable products under supervision
    * Work with manufacturing and quality to upgrade product performance criteria and manage updates to the validation and QC requirements.
    * Maintain a system for communicating product upgrades and changes to customers and distributors
    * Work with manufacturing and quality to plan and implement product line improvements
    * Proactively collect, analyze and evaluate opportunities relative  to marketing, customer, and competitive trends
    * Work with the CLS development group (and other collaborations as necessary) as the commercial representative to bring products to market

Manage new product set-ups and facilitate the commercial launch process

    * Responsible for all commercial documentation for new products, PLE’s, and product change requests
    * Work with manufacturing and development to facilitate new product and change requests
    * Work with customers to identify needs and requirements as they relate to the above projects
    * Develop new product launch and communication plans for internal CLS receivers and channel partners

Support the daily operations of the business

    * Assist in the development of sales tools and technical training programs for the CLS sales organization and channel partners
    * Develop, communicate, and maintain all relevant marketing content on the web site
    * Manage forecast information for products under supervision
    * Serve as the intermediary for key suppliers in dealing with day to day operations
    * Monitor out-of-stock situations and communicate corrective actions with manufacturing and the business team
    * Communicate regularly with sales organization on all pertinent information related to products,
    * Develop key customer and distributor relationships in order to facilitate voice of customer feedback regarding product changes/upgrades and new products
    * Maintain knowledge of competitive products, market perception, and market direction

Education and Experience:

    * BS/BA in marketing, life science, or engineering with 6+ years of combined experience in laboratory/business/sales/marketing in life sciences industry
    * MS in any life science discipline with 3+ years of combined experience in business/sales/marketing in life sciences industry
    * Ph.D. in any life science discipline with 1+ years of business/sales/marketing in life sciences industry
    * MBA coupled with any of the experience combinations above a plus

Required Skills:

    * Ability to formulate business plans, marketing and products requirement documents and product launch plans.
    * Willing to spend a significant amount of his/her time in the field developing close relationships with customers and identifying market needs and trends.
    * High energy and self-motivated.
    * Ability to multitask and take initiative.
    * Product management experience with responsibilities spanning inbound product management and product marketing.
    * Solid understanding of product management processes.
    * Must be a very capable communicator and be comfortable working with a wide variety of corporate executives, sales, marketing, engineering, operations, customers and business partner.
    * Proven teamwork and people management skills; excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
    * Able to work effectively in a collaborative environment in cross-functional teams, contribute solutions, and remain flexible in a fast-paced and changing environment.
    * Business focus with strong technical background; well developed analytical skills; excellent project management skills.
    * Ability to travel up to 30%
