Technical Program Director

Position Description & Responsibilities:

GDO is seeking a motivated SME and thought leader in Software Quality Assurance that will join Compuware’s Global Delivery Organization (GDO) to help define innovative services oriented QA solutions that will drive unprecedented value to our customers as well as be responsible for all QA related delivery projects. This Detroit-based is responsible for managing approximately 60 resources across 3 delivery centers (Detroit, Montreal and Shanghai), growing the team based on current open needs and maturing the delivery process to excellence status.  This position also includes the following responsibilities:

    * As a Technical Program Director, you will have visibility in the P&L and will need to constantly help optimize/achieve financial goals
    * He/she will ensure customer expectations and service level agreements are met, moderate weekly project calls, and help resolve day-to-day issues. Will not only ensure our customers are satisfied, but are key referenced accounts
    * Participate in our college-based programs to foster the insourcing of new talent
    * This role supervises all aspects of the QA lifecycle, including consulting, assessment, proposing innovative solutions, project estimate signoffs (manual, automation, performance testing, etc.), handle project escalations and customer relationship management

    * Develop competitive solutions focused on “Quality Assurance” that are scalable, repeatable and that drives business value to Compuware customers

    * This role will require working closely with Compuware’s local and international services sales force to identify business opportunities, prepare estimations/proposals, present customer solutions and help win business (no sales quota, sales support/closure role).
    * You will work with your QA managers and the Project Managers to identify and resolve financial risks, define and analyze metrics, set resource strategies and policies, and manage contract-related issues between Compuware and customers.
    * Work with our recruiting organization to hire top talent
    * Oversee training and career development activities for the QA team’s continuous learning objectives


    * 5-10 years in a management capacity (hiring, terminating, performance reviews, annual salary increases, employee career path development, etc.)

    * Works at all levels – technical influence/direction, can communicate at all levels (Director and ‘C’ level)
    * A natural leader and recognized practitioner in the Quality Assurance space, ability to motivate staff to excellence, would be able to be a speaker at any key QA event (QAI, CQA, etc.)
    * Has worked up to the QA Director level; started off as a tester, did hands-on test automation and performance testing, became a QA manager and has managed QA Managers (recognized Director level status)
    * Has experience in managing a global workforce (multiple countries and cultures)
    * Works across organizational boundaries and brings enterprise capabilities together to achieve creative solutions
    * Proven capacity to manage, mentor and grow senior technical experts

    * Extensive experience in the delivery of web-based application projects in .NET and Java (B2B, B2C Web technologies)
    * Proven ability to manage several development teams working on concurrent projects with iterative and Agile development methodologies
    * Experience in industry leading QA tools (COTS and open source)
    * Excellent decision-making skills and initiative in solving problems
    * Experience in risk identification and risk mitigation
    * Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse team
    * Strong customer interfacing and negotiating skills
    * Able to travel internationally, up to 10% of time


Desired Skills/Competencies:

    * Has participated and presented in industry consortiums related to QA and performance testing
    * Has experience working with colleges to onboard new talent
    * Has published white-papers, abstracts and other technical artifacts to the industry
    * Has in depth knowledge of Java/JEE, Microsoft “Team Foundation” for .NET projects as well as open source equivalents.
    * Has diverse project experience across multiple platforms (mobile, mainframe, web, etc.)
    * Has participated in CMMi and/or ISO certification processes
    * PMP, QAI, CQA Certifications
