Purpose and Summary of position:



Generate a financial return (TCO) to Celanese while maintaining positive supplier relationships, understanding “user and supplier” requirements, and exhibiting excellent influencing skills to initiate consolidation, standardization, leveraging/bundling opportunities. Additionally, this position is responsible for assisting Commodity Managers in the planning near and long-term strategies regarding service related contracts to ensure Celanese continually maintains a competitive position. This includes monitoring various related indices (to ensure our market position provides a competitive advantage to our businesses), forecasting future market trends and changes to provide enhanced business strategies, reduced procurement costs and security of supply. 30+ Million in spend responsibility.

                Empowered to execute decisions with input and support from cross-functional teams and Commodity Managers. Responsible for identifying and realizing savings (beyond traditional thinking), new tools or innovative methods to ensure consolidation, standardization, leveraging/bundling are realized to their fullest extent.  Assists in the development of negotiation strategies, negotiates contracts, administers performance measures and business compliance. This position will be expected to provide innovative leadership and guidance through the Continuous Improvement Process to ensure sustainable commodity and/or service competitiveness.    

Required knowledge/Skills/Abilities:


      Project experience            

      Excellent knowledge of company purchasing policies and procedures.               

      Excellent contractual, analytical and negotiation skills. – PC skills               

      Excellent verbal and written communication skills – capability to                 influence  outcome.               

      Good working knowledge of the associated supply base.

      Knowledge of insurance, indemnification, environmental, patents, warranties, title, and Workmen’s Compensation Laws.               

      Solid background in evaluating sources of supply of purchased goods and services in terms of vendor performance, facilities, capacity to produce and financial standing.

      Strong conflict resolution skills.

      Strong financial analytical skills



•         Experience


                5+ years experience – minimum 3+ years experience in

                Procurement,  3+ years plant or project experience.




•             Education


                Bachelors Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical) or Business Administration



Desired Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:



      Operational (process) or technical experience.      


      Knowledge of Total Cost of Ownership methodology, cost models, and linear pricing techniques.   


      Knowledge of standardization process (reduced inventories, reduced acquisition costs, longer product life, less transactional costs, reduced obsolescence, etc.), business needs and priorities investment recovery process.  

      Working knowledge and experience with industrial or chemical related  commodities (rotating and fabricated equipment, process and utility equipment, instrumentation, electronics, etc)  and/or services (contract maintenance, engineering, construction, etc.)


      Ability to analyze and interpret market trends through various industrial and commercial indices.


      5+ years technical exp.
