Electrical Technician
Description
As an Electrician at Caterpillar, Inc., you will be responsible for building, installing and repairing electrical and electronic circuits used on machine tools and plant equipment. While applying your knowledge the operations of electrical units and systems, you will test and diagnose malfunctions.
Job duties/responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
* Builds, installs, and repairs electrical and electronic circuits used on machine tools and plant equipment.
* Tests faulty equipment and applies knowledge of operation of electronic units and systems to diagnose malfunctions.
* Tests electronic components and circuits to locate defects using instruments such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, electronic counters, recorders, transistor checkers, capacitor checkers, etc. Aligns, balances, and calibrates equipment.
* Calibrates and services electronic testing instruments.
Qualifications
*Must have completed field related college degree, electrical apprenticeships, technical school, previous experience, military training or equivalent.
*Experience and understanding of electronics, electronic controls, and PLC logic. The ability to program and repair PLC logic machine controls is highly desirable. Must possess strong problem solving and troubleshooting abilities on complex electrical / electronic manufacturing systems.
*Understand blueprints and schematics to troubleshoot motors, transformers, communication devices, and electronic controllers on machine tools, industrial robots, welders, and overhead lifting equipment.
*Required to perform a variety of preventive maintenance functions including period inspection of equipment to locate and correct problems before failures occur. Work in a safe and careful manner, and observe all required safety procedures.
*Capable of using electrical hand-tools, power tools, and test equipment to inspect, adjust, repair or replace faulty components and wiring on all types of electronic devices for a variety of machine tool manufacturers.
*Good communicate skills are a necessity. Must be able to clearly communicate equipment repair status and solutions to maintenance management and fellow tradesmen. Must be capable of working with electrical engineers, engineering technicians, and OEM personnel. Must be able to recognize areas of maintenance performance improvements and work in a team environment to provide maintenance support. This includes replacing circuit breakers, fuses, switches, electrical and electronic components, and wiring.

*Previous job related experience in a warehouse/factory environment
