Funeral Assistant
Summary and Mission
Accountable for performing a variety of tasks during the funeral and memorialization process to assist funeral directors and other location staff to ensure that services run smoothly as planned and that the expectations of our client families and their guests are exceeded.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities and essential job functions include, but are not limited to the following:
· Greet and direct client families and their guests at the funeral home.
· Answer questions and assist with serving the needs of the client families, their guests and other visitors during the visitation and memorialization events.
· Offer assistance to client families and their guests as they enter or exit limousines or other processional vehicles.
· Close caskets at appropriate point in services.
· Transfer the deceased into our care.
· Obtain burial permits and register deaths.
· Ensure that public spaces such as parlors, chapels and reception/rest areas are clean and prepared prior to scheduled services.
· Direct or escort client families and their guests to parlors or chapels in which services are being held.
· Place caskets in parlors or chapels prior to service.
· Clean and drive funeral vehicles such as cars or hearses in funeral processions.
· Direct parking and/or line-up of visitor cars in an orderly and safe fashion.
· Carry flowers to hearses or limousines for transportation.
· Receive, unload and arrange merchandise in the selection room.
· Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Qualifications
Experience and Education
· High School Diploma or GED.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Working knowledge of principles and processes for providing excellent customer and personal services, including:
· Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently.
· Ability to rapidly assess the needs of client families and their guests and to quickly adapt to changing circumstances.
· Meeting our “Being the Best” standards for services and evaluation of client family satisfaction.
· Ability to empathize with client families and their guests and demonstrate tact and patience in emotionally charged situations.
· Commitment to the value of our services with a sincere desire to proactively solve any problems encountered by our client families or their guests.
· Effective and professional communication skills, with an emphasis on verbal skills and the ability to resolve and respond to issues in a professional, friendly and courteous manner.
· Proactive and willing to take initiative in all circumstances.
