Product Metallurgist

Carpenter Technology Corporation, a world leader in the manufacture and distribution of specialty alloys and engineered materials, has an opening for a Plant Product Metallurgist with experience in high temperature alloys, stainless steels and alloy steels. The position will initially be located in the Reading, PA facility, but will move to a new state-of-the-art Premium Products Focus Facility in Athens, Alabama upon start-up in 2013-2014 time frame. In this important role, you would:

    * Develop and optimize manufacturing lineups.
    * Provide disposition of discrepant or referred material.
    * Work with manufacturing operations and product metallurgy to improve metallurgical performance, yield and cost.
    * Reduce process and product variation.
    * Assist with customer audits.

The successful candidate will have strong communication skills, strong analytical skills, knowledge of statistics and the ability to apply statistics to process improvement and problem solving. A BS, materials engineering or equivalent is required. A minimum of two years experience with high temperature alloys, nickel alloys is desired. Six Sigma / BPI experience would be beneficial.
