Web Designer
The Senior Web Designer helps lead the creation of user interfaces and interactive content for Capella University marketing websites (creative & front end web development. Use of HTML,CSS, JavaScript, jQuery), web-based applications, mobile sites, advertising, and more. Appreciated in this role is someone with strengths in marketing digital strategy and an understanding of bringing in leads through design. This position is considered a leader for best practices and standards within the Web Design team and provides branding guidance and art direction to other designers. This individual reports to the Supervisor of Web Design, whose team has responsibility for interface design, front-end development, multimedia, company branding, usability, and ADA 508 compliance.
Responsibilities:
- Manage brand integrity of the sites and other projects to ensure cohesive image to internal and external visitors. Provide guidance to, and enforcement of, brand and website design standards to designers and general graphic design mentorship to all designers on Interactive Design team. Critique other designers work to maintain consistent creative quality.
- Create user interfaces, from look and feel mockups through development (graphics optimization, HTML, CSS) for final delivery. Create templates for producers to build out web site.
- Lead assigned creative staff on projects.
- Create interactive Flash or HTML5 standards-based content and animations.
- Collaborate with external vendors to implement creative web designs, including email communications.
- Partner with business units to understand specific business goals, customer needs, and opportunities to improve business performance through the website.
- Introduce innovative design to increase site productivity, traffic to specific/desired areas, positive user experiences and business results.
- Ensure that material on the web site is accessible to all groups including those with disabilities and design and develop site for search engine optimization.
- Develop and maintain the production, graphical, and compression standards for the highest possible quality, navigational ease, consistency in look and feel, and content architecture of Capella's websites.
- Keep current with design trends, web trends and best practices.
- Communicate status and risks to project leaders and business partners.
- Provide expertise and guidance to other members of the team.
- Collaborate with usability team to test and refine designs.
- Bachelors degree in design (web/graphic design, communications, new media design) or related field.
- 4 or more years of web design experience from site concept to launch, with a proven track record of meeting deadlines.
- Expert knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash.
- Expert knowledge of front-end web standards technologies (HTML,CSS, Javascript).
- Ability to translate business needs into creative web-based solutions and to deliver business goals and project objectives with limited supervision.
- Strong understanding of all aspects of web design including strategy, design, usability, and implementation.
- Experience with mobile web sites and native mobile platforms preferred.
- Experience with design for personalization and content management templates.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills which foster and develop business partner relationships.
- Ability to mentor others and provide constructive design critiques.
- Strong prioritization and interpersonal skills to balance multiple demands. Ability to grasp new concepts quickly and an extreme attention to detail.
