Development Engineer

System engineers are allocated to major Drilling systems projects to ensure that all requirements from a system perspective of the customer specifications are met. Systems engineers will be allocated to a project from concept through to the first phase of installation as a minimum.
The system interface engineer will work with the technical manager for the particular project who will give them daily direction and will act on behalf of the project technical manager whenever the need arises.

1. Responsible for ensuring the components that comprise the Drilling system function together to meet the system requirements. The Drilling system engineer will work closely with the individual Drilling product/package engineers.
2. External Interfaces
a. Ensures that all external interfaces are identified, considered and duly closed out
3. Internal Interfaces
a. Ensures all internal interfaces are properly managed for the particular Drilling Systems project
4. Design Basis Memorandum
a. Responsible for the preparation and generation of the Design Basis Memorandum in conjunction with the Product/Package Engineering.
b. Review and critique Functional Design Specifications from the individual package engineers.
5. Design Reviews
a. Responsible for directing and coordinating the system design review in conjunction with Product/Package Engineering.
b. Ensure that the package engineer design reviews meet the requirements of the Design Basis Memorandum.
c. Maintain design review action register in conjunction with Product/Package Engineering.
6. Preparation of System Documents such as: -
a. Project system procedures and plans.
b. System P&ID’s.
c. System block diagrams
d. System drawing list
7. Risk Assessment, HAZOP’s etc.
a. Help coordinate the necessary reviews in conjunction with the project HSE manager and Product/Package Engineering.
b. Ensure closure of any actions arising from the reviews pertaining to engineering requirements.
8. Materials
a. Generate the material list matrix for the project in conjunction with the Product/Package Engineering and Metallurgy groups.
b. Manage and coordinate the preparation of the Materials Design Memorandum in regard to Drilling Systems Product Engineering and Metallurgy groups.
9. Riser analysis
a. Manage and coordinate the timely conclusion of any BOP riser analysis work. Confirm the wellhead and mating connector loading is maintained within the wellhead and connector limitations.
10. Reliability, Availability. Maintainability (RAM)
a. Assist the Product/Package Engineering in providing relevant information for a RAM study (if required).
11. CTR’s
a. Generate and populate the CTR database for System engineering in conjunction with the Product/Package Engineering.
b. Review and ensure consistency of the package engineers CTR’s.
12. Project Testing Regime
a. Ensure project testing requirements are being met by generating a project test matrix in conjunction with Product/package Engineering.
b. Develop and maintain a list of qualification test plans and requirements for the project.
c. SIT – ensure system requirements are met and fully verified
d. SIT – manage the generation of the Drilling Systems SIT procedures by the package engineers.
e. Ensure all SRT, Pre-shipment, storage procedures are completed by the relevant package engineers.
13. Operation, Installation and Maintenance
a. Generate/Coordinate the Drilling system O&M manual in conjunction with Product/Package Engineering and Technical Publications groups.
b. Review installation procedures.
c. Ensure interfaces relating to installation are worked properly and closed out.
d. Review operating procedures.
e. Conduct ROV accessibility study (if required).
f. Review spare parts list.
14. Project Close-Out
a. Provide input for project close out report.
b. Attend all lessons learned meetings, assist with preparation of lessons learned report.
Job Requirements/ Qualifications    BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar technical field and 5+ years experience.

Broad Drilling Systems product knowledge

Knowledge of industry codes and standards (e.g. API, ISO, etc.)

Thorough knowledge of Drilling Systems Equipment/Interfaces and a keen understanding of their impact of changes in other parts of the Drilling System.
