Database Administrator

The Application DBA is responsible for database design and the ongoing support and administration of databases for applications. The application DBA is an expert at writing and debugging complex SQL and understands the best ways to incorporate database requests into application programs. The application DBA must also be capable of performing database change management, performance tuning, database installation and database maintenance.
Resource must have a deep working knowledge of the Oracle and MS SQL Server.

Responsibilities Include:

• Design code and maintain SQL/Oracle queries, stored procedures, and triggers
• Review all changes to the data model to ensure changes conform to our standards and best practices
• Perform Query Tuning and Optimization
• Manage and administer databases in the development and QA environments
• Develop change management and deployment process for database schema changes to be used by System DBAs to deploy code
• Maintain existing Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle Databases
• Perform installation of small to large MS SQL Server and Oracle databases
• Load and extract data between databases and external data sources
• Serve as after hours on-call database administrator on a rotating basis
• Maintain documentation related to database configuration
• Experience supporting a 24/7 environment
• Good understanding of the organization's goals and objectives

Essential Skills:

• Bachelor's Degree
• Oracle DBA Certification and MS SQL Server DBA Certification
• 5+ years experience as DBA
• Minimum 2 Years experience with Oracle and MS SQL Server
• A minimum of 5 years Oracle DBA Experience, development skills needed to optimize queries.
• A minimum of 5 years Microsoft SQL Server DBA Experience, development skills needed to optimize queries.
• Ideally 5+ year supporting Oracle or MS SQL Server in a Production environment.
• Strong analysis and database/SQL tuning skills
• Experience with data modeling tools such as ERwin
• Experience in data management policies and procedures
• Experience in data migration/backup/restore strategies
• Experience in storage estimation
• Experience in recommending index strategies based on forecasts of application usage
• Experience in data security
• Excellent analytical and process skills
• Ability to work in a large team environment

Hardware/Software Packages:

• Microsoft Office – MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Visio, Sharepoint, MS Project
Microsoft Windows Server
• Unix

Desired Skils:

• Knowledge or use of data profiling and cleansing techniques and products
• Configuration management experience in a J2EE environment, including Weblogic, J2EE applications, XML and HTML is a plus
• Actual software development experience in Java/J2EE or C++ applications is a plus
• Knowledge of system life cycle / application development alternatives
• High aptitude for complex problem analysis / resolution
• Excellent communication skills; ability to effectively present to target audience
• Ability to effectively work with all levels of personnel within the organization
• Detail-orientated; uses sound judgment; and is self-motivated with the ability to handle multiple tasks
• Very good organization and time management skills
