Energy Specialist

Develop, coordinate and implement strategies, practices and procedures to reduce energy consumption. Provide technical & practical advice and training on energy efficiency to improve energy intensity index. Monitor energy consumption and maintain accurate records to carry out energy data analysis and identify improvement opportunities. Assist in preparation of specifications, drawings and tender documents for energy services, improvements or plant replacement works to ensure energy efficiency considerations are incorporated. Assist in preparation of feasibility studies and cost estimates for capital expenditure energy improvement projects. Liaise with and provide technical support to mechanical and electrical design engineers on energy related projects to incorporate energy efficient design requirements. Carry out regular site inspections and surveys to evaluate energy use, costs, and conservation measures. Perform energy modeling, measurement and verification across plants and processes to identify loss and areas of improvement. Establish site energy KPIs, benchmark against best in class to validate performance and improvements in energy consumption and cost. Conduct research or collect data on renewable or alternative e energy systems or technologies such as solar and photovoltaic energy to identify practical application of alternate energy sources. Introduce, develop and deploy implementation of energy technologies/best practices across the organization to improve the energy efficiency. Review energy purchase agreements and assist in preparation of annual budgets to ensure that energy is purchased and budgeted in the most cost effective manner. Remain abreast of current legislation and ensure corporate compliance. Develop and deliver specific energy training to Operations and support group to create awareness of effective & optimum use of energy. Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical or Power Engineering or equivalent combination of practical experience and education. Minimum ten (10) years of practical and administrative experience within a process plant environment with at least 3 years as an energy conservation/efficiency leader. Must have detailed knowledge on energy use and conservation within a process plant environment, specific knowledge in oil refining preferred. Must be a clear thinker with considerable administrative and organizational skill. Must be self-motivated, exercise initiative, strong team player with strong leadership qualities. Must have good communication and mentoring skills capable of influencing and gaining support from various technical teams with the refinery. Preferably an Energy Best Practice Champion or registered Energy Consultant.
