Operations Manager

Castle Metals, one of the nation's leading metal service centers, provides a broad base of metals, services, and logistics solutions to diverse industries, including aerospace, semi-conductor, oil and gas, automotive, and heavy equipment manufacturers. This position will:
- Plan, organize, and manage through direct reports, all operations activities relating to receiving, storing, shipping, and traffic through the most efficient and cost effective processes.
- Review and approve the scheduling of all activities to ensure that service level requirements are met for both direct customers and other company facilities.
- Direct the quality processes and ISO compliance and ensure that product quality standards are maintained through proper training and utilization of established inspection techniques. Initiate corrective action and process improvement where appropriate.
- Ensure that all Company human resources policies and practices are being administered in conformance with established contracts and/or guidelines. Maintain positive relations with union where appropriate and represent the company in the grievance procedure
- Evaluate workflow, work methods, and procedures on an ongoing basis and initiate corrective action and process improvement where appropriate.
- Recommend staffing levels, and upon approval, hire employees required to meet operating objectives and service level requirements. Provide for the training and development of personnel.
- Ensure compliance with the corporate safety program and provide for housekeeping which is consistent with established standards.
- Review performance of subordinates regularly and conduct formal evaluations when scheduled. Recommend appropriate changes in status.
- Recommend departmental expenditures including capital requirements annually and monitor budget performance.
- Manage production lead times competitive with the market and in support of sales.
- Develop staff (i.e., supervisory direct reports)
- BS degree in industrial management, engineering or business, or a related field
- Organizational/leadership development
- Union management training
- Negotiation skills
- Quality systems and process improvement techniques.
- Management skills: communication skills, problem solving, delegation, project planning, and innovation.
- Knowledge of product and processing is a plus.
- Minimum three (3) to five years (5) of industrial/manufacturing supervisory/management experience in a manufacturing or warehouse environment. Experience in a union environment a plus.
