Master of Engineering Management
The Master of Science in Engineering Management degree, or Master of Engineering Management , often abbreviated MSEM or MEM, can be either an academic or professional master's degree that bridges the gap between the field of engineering and the field of business. A variation is the Master of Science in Engineering *and* Management. It is generally pursued by engineers and scientists interested in widening their breadth of knowledge beyond their specific technical field into management and business. It can be earned with a prerequisite bachelor of science in engineering or science or as a post-graduate program with a Bachelor of Engineering Management degree. The MSEM degree normally consists of a number of engineering courses focused on technology, as well as numerous business based classes that tend to mirror the first year of an MBA. The Master of Science in Engineering Management offers business classes that are specifically tailored for engineering and science professionals who want to be leaders in their organizations. A MSEM or MS in Engineering Management graduate walks away with an understanding of the intersection of the fields of business and technology, and is well suited for either a management position within an engineering company or a more technically intensive role in a business setting. Many of the MSEM programs are still quite young and the academic field is still in the process of growing.
