Senior Software Engineer

Netflix seeks a seasoned software developer with proven experience in network programming. As Netflix delivers increasingly-large volumes of movies and TV shows to a fast-growing global subscriber base, this is a unique opportunity to help design and code one of the largest entertainment-delivery platforms in the world. The ideal candidate will be excited to help build and operate a highly-available, multi-locational infrastructure with global reach at massive scale – in an agile, fast-paced environment. This person will be well-versed in *nix system programming, TCP/IP networking, *nix kernel tuning – and be pre-disposed to preventative and automation-oriented engineering.
Responsibilities

    * Code development to support a very high performance HTTP environment
    * Assist in the specification, evaluation and troubleshooting of production systems
    * Tune system hardware, filesystems, OS/kernel and application software to maximize per-system uptime, performance and throughput

Skills & Experience

The following qualifications are required...

    * Knowledge of standard Internet protocols (in practice and by RFC), especially TCP/IP, HTTP/S and DNS
    * Expert knowledge of *nix systems
    * Knowledge of filesystems, disk-management and data redundancy/resiliency best practices
    * Experience with source/revision-control systems (e.g., CVS, Subversion, Perforce, Git)
    * Superb communication skills, both written and verbal
    * Excellent planning, organizational, prioritization and project/time-management skills, especially in a cross-functional context
    * Flexibility and bandwidth to deal with a novel, dynamic and extremely fast-paced environment

The following qualifications are preferred...

    * BS in Computer Science, Network Engineering or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent professional experience)
    * Knowledge of and proven experience with CDN/HTTP cache/proxy technology
