Member Technical Staff (build Engineer)
Net App is looking for a Software Tools and Build Systems Engineer with 8+ years of experience developing and supporting large parallel build systems and other software tools in a UNIX environment. In this position you will work as part of the team developing and enhancing NetAps Best-in-Class build system, driving improvements in the development environment and improved development productivity by improving the tools, build architecture and processes. Essential Functions: A major part of your responsibility will be: 1. Develop, maintain, and support Build Tools 2. Frontline developer support and handling trouble tickets 3. Test Build tools and process changes 4. Monitor and improve build metrics gathering infrastructure 5. Analyze Build metrics to identify issues and areas for improvement As part of a team, you will participate in technical discussions where evaluating and executing design and development plans for products are reviewed. You will have direct influence on the decisions and outcomes related to project direction. This position is for someone with a desire to work in a multi-hat role -- developer, and support engineer for software developers. This is a highly visible position that will give the right person the opportunity to make significant contributions to our developers productivity Education & Experience: - A minimum of 5 years of experience is required (in MakeFiles). -8 to 10 years of overall experience is preferred. - A Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, a Master Degree, or a PhD; or equivalent experience is required. - Demonstrated ability to have completed multiple, moderately complex technical tasks. Desired Profile Requirements: - 8 years of experience in build methodologies and software tools development - Strong knowledge of at least one scripting language (Perl or Python) - Working knowledge of make and makefiles - Experience in distributed Build. - Strong oral and written communication skills - Midlevel understanding of C and C++ code - Midlevel debugging/analytical skills - Midlevel experience working in a UNIX software environment - Basic understanding of SQL - Basic CGI, PHP and web programming skills - Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment of other engineers to meet aggressive goals and high quality standards. - Creative approach to problem solving. Responsibility and Interaction: Responsibility: - The tasks this individual is responsible for are often non-routine and unstructured, requiring creative solutions. - This individual will apply attained experiences and knowledge in solving complex problems. Interaction: - This individual must work effectively with staff to director levels employees within the function, and the technical team on assigned projects. There may be communication with employees in other functions as required. - Limited supervision and direction is provided to employee on new projects or assignments; general guidance is provided on new assignments. - This individual should demonstrate good judgment in solving problems. - The ideal candidate will be a proactive contributor.
