Research Scientist

Assay development scientist conducts bioassay based product research, applied research and validation of new diagnostic tools for food safety and animal health applications. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, other duties may be assigned.

    * Plans and conducts experiments with direction from a Senior Research Scientist or laboratory Director.
    * Records daily experimental results, analyzes data, and provides a summary of results to the Senior Research Scientist or Director.
    * Assists in experimental design by providing scientific input and recommendations to the Senior Research Scientist or Lab Manager on current and future projects.
    * Completes assigned tasks to advances projects from development through manufacturing transfer and product launch following a time-line for milestone completion.
    * Performs chemical extractions, separations, and quantitation of analytes extracted from various food and drink matrices. Analyte quantitation will include spectroscopic, ELISA, and chromatographic techniques.
    * Conducts accelerated product stability testing protocols.
    * Performs duties related to laboratory safety and cleanliness.
    * Prepares reagents and buffers as required.
    * Stay abreast of pertinent developments in the fields of food safety and immunodiagnostics.
    * Presents results at internal meetings and at scientific conferences.
    * Prepares reports and manuscripts describing results


Education and/or Experience: BS in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering or closely related field with 0-3 year's laboratory experience. Knowledge of enzymes, immunoassays, chemistry, and food safety diagnostics. Experience in data collection using plate readers and spectrophotometers. Knowledge of chemical extraction and separation methods. Proficient in data analysis. Strong communication and presentation skills. Ability to work in a fast paced environment, managing multiple projects with attention to meeting project milestones and timelines. Ability to work effectively as a member of a project team, interacting with members of other departments including other R&D groups, Sales & Marketing, Business Development, Manufacturing, Quality Control, and Technical Service.
