Associate Scientist

Performs the daily care of the research vivarium, which includes cleaning cages and racks. Coordinates with vendors and supervisors on operational, administrative and technical responsibilities. May assist with some procedures and care as directed. Responsible for overseeing procurement of rodents and supplies, preventive maintenance of facility equipment, daily rounds and observation. Follows standard operating procedures and maintains records to comply with regulatory requirements.<br><br>Responsibilities<br>Performs routine and some non-routine procedures.<br>•Makes observations, analyzes relevant data and interprets results.<br>•Provide general, daily laboratory husbandry and care.<br>•Practice routine and/or sophisticated husbandry and maintenance of rodents, in their micro- and macro-environments in a manner compliant with Corporate, State, Federal and other regulations and requirements. This involves, but is not limited to the following:<br>&nbsp;•regularly-scheduled cage &amp; equipment maintenance<br>&nbsp;•census applications<br>&nbsp;•operation of major sanitation/sterilization machinery<br>&nbsp;•holding room &amp; general facility sanitation<br>&nbsp;•monitoring of critical environmental parameters<br>&nbsp;•accurate record keeping &amp; reporting of activities<br>&nbsp;•procurement, receiving, storage<br>&nbsp;•inventorying of feed<br>&nbsp;•bedding and other husbandry supplies<br>&nbsp;•strict observation of Corporate safety policies &amp; procedures<br>&nbsp;•effective cross-disciplinary communications skills<br>&nbsp;•participation in in vivo/ex vivo laboratory procedures as scheduling and training allow<br><br>•Maintains current training requirements.<br>•May perform special projects when assigned.<br>•Maintains compliance to company Environmental Health and Safety policies, procedures and practices.<br><br>Requirements<br>•Requires a minimum of a High School diploma. An Associates degree is a plus. Equivalent experience may be accepted.<br>•A minimum of 4 years working as vivarium technician is required.<br>•Familiarity with care of immunocompromised rodents desirable.<br>•Strong attention to detail regarding documentation is a must.<br>•Good communication skills both oral and written are a must.<br>•Must be able to follow Standard Operating Procedures.<br>•Good computer skills are required.<br>•Excellent organizational skills are required.<br>•Must have ability to multi-task.<br>•Willingness to work flexible schedule including some holidays &amp; weekends.<br>•Consideration given to AALAS certification. <br>
