Product Line Manager
Description
Business Development
a. Define and envision success for the product line and chart the course required to successfully bring to market.
b. Create, manage, and successfully execute individual product line road maps, and product line costs including capital and operating expenses.
c. Responsible for new product development and for sustaining current products.
d. Lead and coordinate Product Life Cycle Management across stakeholders.
e. Manage all intellectual property matters for the product line.
(3) Sales & Marketing
a. Identify competitive and alternative offerings in the market to access their strengths and weaknesses and develop a strategy for winning against the competition.
b. Act as the consultative customer interface as required to ensure adequate “Voice of the Customer” (VoC) representation.
c. Facilitate ongoing market feedback to continually increase/extend product value propositions through product line extensions, improvements, and enhancements.
d. Lead ongoing marketing strategy including product positioning, branding and market segmentation.
e. Ensure that sales and training materials are developed and delivered.
f. Participate in the development of marketing communication materials.
(4) Intra-company Interface
a. Act as the spokesperson to be the singular voice of the customer, product, and message. Articulate the product’s uses and benefits to any and all stakeholders as required.
b. Lead and influence overall direction of the product development, balancing needs of the market with functional, executive and corporate goals.
c. Develop and implement a company-wide go-to-market plan, leading across functions to execute.
d. Coordinate activities between all functions to prepare for product and extension releases. Ensure that all key success factors are completed for external product launch.
e. Manage change across the organization and with customer throughout the product life cycle.
(5) Product Development (within scope of CanrigOne)
a. Work with the appropriate resources to define and correlate appropriate formalized inputs for new projects.
b. Work with the appropriate resources to deliver clear and detailed “Product Requirement” and “Use Case documents for development engineering purposes.
c. Work with appropriate approval board to justify and prioritize new projects, as well as review priorities, development, and success of existing projects on an ongoing basis.
d. Assist in resource planning and scheduling for projects as required.
e. Work with engineering to develop product guidelines and standards, which are consistent with the product positioning statement.
f. Work with Product Delivery Team to develop accurate and reliable product survey documents/procedures and to clarify product limitations among various applications.
(6) Product Commercialization
a. Work with approval boards to define and approve commercialization plan.
b. Provide required product/project deliverables required for commercialization.
c. Coordinate the release of product revisions with supply chain.
(7) Quality Assurance
a. Work with Quality Control to facilitate an open dialogue among functions and promote widespread individual ownership and accountability for product quality assurance.
b. Solicit stakeholder input to improve internal processes affecting product development, manufacture, delivery and reputation.
c. Periodically audit processes to ensure product meets relevant standards such as: API, ISO, etc.
(8) Manufacturing & Supply Chain
a. Supply guidance for inventory control due to engineering revisions and assist in defining safety stocks and spare parts inventories.
b. Communicate resource requirements for new product manufacturing.
c. Evaluate and document major product strategy changes to ensure that all internal functions and customers are represented.
(9) Documentation
a. Manage and coordinate the writing of all required documentation for:
• Engineering
• Manufacturing & Supply Chain
• Users
• Service & Support
• Training
b. Ensure that all work related to the product line meets required standards and certifications.
c. Develop the appropriate documentation perspective so that end-user needs are fully met.

(10) Product Training for Internal & External Customers
a. Define curriculum for development of product training which is specifically suited to the end-user and monitor the ongoing effectiveness of training initiatives.
b. Define curriculum for the development of training courses for support technicians based on specific product requirements and competencies and monitor the ongoing effectiveness of training programs.
c. Investigate and access new and/or alternative training delivery methods which better meet the needs of the end-user or deliver a competitive advantage.
(11) After Market Service
a. Facilitate effective communication between Canrig Field Service & Customer Support and all other functions with respect to VoC.
b. Assist as required to determined product-specific skill and competency requirements for Field Service & Customer Support personnel.
c. Solicit feedback from stakeholders on Engineering Change Requests/Notifications (ECR/ECN), product revisions and changes.
d. Communicate with stakeholders on warranty issues as required and act as the final adjudicator on all warranty coverage.
Qualifications
a. Has high degree of knowledge and experience related to strategic planning, business development, budgeting, and profit and loss.
b. Possess strong market knowledge and keeps abreast of market changes.
c. Use skilled resource management, including resource estimation and skill set requirements.
d. Exhibit strong project and process management skills.
e. Work as a change agent who is comfortable with change, has the ability to shift focus and adapt quickly to forces which are often beyond control, and welcomes the challenge of successfully managing change for a broad group of stakeholders.
f. Act as a proactive, forward-looking visionary; using strategic leadership and precise tactical intervention when necessary.
g. Serve as the singular point of contact for all stakeholders associated with product line.
h. Facilitate discussions, debate, mediate conflict and nurture a collaborative cross-functional effort.
i. Deal calmly and methodically with obstacles.
j. Support Canrig’s short-term objectives, long-range goals, and worldwide vision.
