Sales IT

The Sales and Marketing IT (SMIT) Group within MSIT supports the execution of Microsoft’s business models for all Sales and Marketing teams across all businesses of MS. It focuses on internal processes that include Awareness to Lead (A2L) and Lead to Order (L2O). We are currently looking for a General Manager, Lead to Order (Sales).

This position will report into the VP Sales and Marketing IT (SMIT).

This position will directly manage an organization of approximately 50 people which will include a mixture of the following leadership roles:
o Sub process Manager
o Delivery Manager
o Solutions Manager
o Business Architect
o Business manager and administrative support

The General Manager for Lead to Order will lead a team of Information Technology professionals that deliver real time, business process aligned information services for the Lead to Order processes including Incentive Compensation, Direct Sales, Partner Sales and Telesales. Collaborating with senior stakeholders across Microsoft, customers and partners in the industry, s/he will participate in the formulation of our strategic vision and alignment of IT process and systems alignment, development and implementation in support of the Lead to Order processes.

This role will be responsible for creating and driving the strategic alignment, decision making and management infrastructure for the IT solutions that enable the Lead to Order Processes, and have direct responsibility for cross-team projects critical to the success of the client team they support. The General Manager will ensure efficient business operations processes for designing, developing, and operating IT solutions for the Lead to Order Processes, while delivering outstanding value to Microsoft by continuously improving business process effectiveness in partnership with internal stakeholder in SMSG, Business Groups, and subsidiaries.

This role requires someone who is a proven, influential thought-leader, experienced in information technology strategy, development and deployment of IT solutions at an enterprise scale and has a good understanding of MS sales processes. S/He must be capable of communicating ideas clearly and thoughtfully, with vision to identify future trends and needs, and able to collaborate with others to achieve desired outcomes for the company.

Specifically, the General Manager, Lead to Order IT will:

Own end to end strategy, charter, delivery operation and support of the Sales IT system portfolio.
Direct and/or indirect management of Solution Management, Delivery Management, Architecture, Process optimization, User Experience and Localization teams that reside in one or more locations.
Drive organizational and project execution excellence (on time/on budget/with quality)
Drive World Class IT Process, Policies & Procedures
Ensure that the group strategy and implementation plan/status are clear and visible to all stakeholders, and effectively highlighted progress toward key goals, identifying significant problems or risks. The GM will proactively educate the key stakeholders on the status of the strategy and implementation.
Alignment team to core process unit blueprint ensuring the right organizational structure and mix of disciplines to efficiently implement the vision, strategy, and implementation plan.
Develop a strategic vendor sourcing and workforce plan in coordination with MSIT overall workforce and vendor strategies to ensure effective utilization of MS full time resources, management of MS IP and development/seeding of MS technology into the broader IT industry marketplace.
Represent Microsoft directly to customers and the press, and otherwise visibly represent Microsoft IT in the industry.
Evangelize MSIT strategy and road map through multiple levels of management and ensure that the efforts are aligned to the overall strategy.
Effectively communicate the vision, strategy, implementation plan/status, and key decisions to all constituents (team, key stakeholders, customer segments, key customers/partners.
Implement a clearly defined and transparent schedule of commitments and metrics to consistently meet the implementation goals.
Clearly communicate roles, responsibilities, authority, appropriately delegating them throughout the organization leading to timely and effective decision making.
Develop and operate within a budget, effectively allocating resources to optimize business group results, responsible for accurate forecasts and budget spend.
Foster a climate that supports relationship building and collaboration at all levels throughout the business, which results in improved alignment and innovation.
Actively uses opportunities for partnering across the business groups and field subsidiaries, which results in improved coordination and alignment and the adoption of best practices.

The successful candidate for the General Manager, Lead to Order must have the following:

Demonstrate world class leadership and people management skills in a global workforce environment.
Experience driving transformative strategies and policies, negotiating with key stakeholders to create significant company impact
Strong strategy skills, with ability to recognize the often conflicting business interests across organizational boundaries, ability to articulate tradeoffs, build alignment and drive common strategy
Experience managing executive relationships.
Demonstrated ability to lead through a position of influence.
10 - 15 years of progressive experience leading large scale Enterprise IT organizations in a Fortune 500 company
Leadership qualities include excellent communication skills and strong cross-group collaboration.
Ability to work across groups in a matrixed environment, and to drive impact through influence; knowledge of Microsoft and how to get things done across business groups will be a plus, though not require
Solid management skills and an interest and ability to develop and guide senior level talent
Advanced general management competences including analytical problem solving, customer focused innovation, passion for quality, project management, strategic insight and technical excellence.
Built world-class teams, provided strong leadership across disciplines and organizational boundaries and proven influencing skills with and without, direct line authority.
Strong business acumen, financial skills, and analytical abilities.
Strong project management skills: ability to drive multiple high profile projects forward, effective leverage of all resources to drive results, ability to create excellent processes
Demonstrated success in portfolio management including whole lifecycle development

Advanced Degrees in Computer Science or MBA preferred.
