Under the direction of the Director, is responsible for providing guidance and supervisor to employees in comleting process, production, maintenance or production support activities, which may include manufacturing and filling of vaccines or sterile products, lyophilization operations, biological packaging operations, production support, and/or mechanical support.  Utilizes a high degree of independent judgment and decision making to direct production or support operations in an assigned area.  Ensures products are produced following established procedures while adhering to quality, safety, and environmental guidelines.  Maintains cost control in assigned area.  Manages area within company policies and within the framework of the local agreement.


•           Reports to and receives direction from Director, and manages a staff of supervisors and hourly personnel.  On routine process operations, is guided by standard procedures.  On atypical events, process, mechanical, and automation changes exercises independent judgment where possible while keeping supervisor informed.

•           Directs daily operations to meet established schedules and standard cost.  Uses own judgment to develop action plans to resolve atypical events and prevent recurrence.  Responsible for ensuring quality and the reliability of supply.

•           Provides guidance to staff in analyzing data and production trends.  Works closely with staff and staff support groups (Quality Control, Engineering & Technology, etc.) to improve process and procedures and in resolving problems, investigations, and atypical occurrences.

•           Ensures training efforts are targeted to departmental operational needs.

•           Maintains good labor relations and provides guidance to subordinates on personnel action.  Consults with Human Resources on personnel administration.

•           Responsible for control of yields, material charge, supplies usage, and labor variances.  Controls inventory and variances.

•           Participates in the preparation of engineering standards and profit plan.

•           Explains and ensures all safety, Good Manufacturing Practices, and environmental regulations are followed.  Periodically reviews documents, SOPs, maintenance programs, etc. for accuracy.  Participates on audits and in the development of responses.


      B.S. or higher degree preferably in Science, Engineering or business equivalent experience.


      One to three years of manufacturing or staff support experience or equivalent.


      Candidate must have good leadership and interpersonal skills.
