Process Specialist

At Merck & Co., Inc Manufacturing facility in Elkton, Virginia, we
currently have a Process Specialist position available at the
Stonewall Plant; which is located in the Shenandoah Valley along the
Shenandoah River and the Blue Ridge Mountains. The facility is just a
short distance from major state universities: University of Virginia
and James Madison University.
The Process Specialist will be a member of the Technical Operations
Department at the Elkton, VA site. The Elkton plant, also known as
Stonewall, is located in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley and opened in
1941. The site employs a wide array of state of the art manufacturing
technologies to support the production of pharmaceuticals including
organic synthesis, biotechnology and sterile filling operations.
The candidate would be a member of a cross functional team involved in
late stage downstream process development, pilot plant operation and
technology transfer for the production of therapeutic proteins and
vaccines.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to:
· Apply their enthusiasm for the scientific process through
planning for, executing and analyzing the results of laboratory scale
protein purification process development experiments
· Operate pilot scale equipment to demonstrate protein purification processes
· Provide on-the-floor process support during technology transfer
· Employ strong verbal and written communication skills.
· Work both independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
Shift work will be required.
Qualifications
Required:
A Bachelor's degree in a life science or engineering field and a minimum of three (3) years of experience in biotechnology
or
Masters degree in a biotechnology field
Experience in protein chromatography
Experience inf downstream process development at laboratory or
manufacturing scale is required (FPLC (AKTA/Unicorn), HPLC (Empower),
Filtration techniques)
Preferred:
Familiarity with cGMP operations
