Associate Consultant

Job Purpose:

To learn the business of MedAssets from an analytics and project delivery standpoint by supporting senior level consultants and team members in the successful delivery of MedAssets engagements.  In addition, the Associate Consultant will gain experience and knowledge in engagement delivery and work toward building competency at a more senior consultant level.

Position Objectives:

    * Understand, analyze, and interpret spend, clinical, operational, and/or performance improvement-related data.
    * Develop client relations skills and team coordination skills.
    * Provide project support to consulting teams and staff.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    * Learn the business of MedAssets.  Each Associate Consultant is expected to participate fully in the development of a plan in conjunction with the appropriate Senior Director or Vice President to learn the skills needed to be part of a successful consulting engagement team.  Key specific skills to be developed include, but are not limited to, clinical product knowledge, hospital operations & finance, effective public speaking, negotiation tactics, client satisfaction strategies, effective communication, performance improvement methodologies, and benchmarking metrics  skills will be developed via a combination of self-paced learning materials (e.g., printed, e-learning modules) and on-site (e.g., shadowing, observation) activities.
    * Provide support to senior level consultants through data analysis, meeting preparation, product research, status report preparation, project planning and coordination, conference call participation, and on-site assessments.  The Associate Consultant will also learn all aspects of MedAssets business units and understand how multi-business unit engagements work.
    * Delivery of successful consulting engagements.  The Associate Consultant is responsible for assisting in the delivery of successful consulting engagements to MedAssets clients as part of a consulting team.  Success is defined as the timely meeting of all material project deliverables included in the engagement contract, including cost savings or performance guarantees.  Success is also defined as the willingness of the key customer contact to serve as a reference for MedAssets services.  The Associate Consultant will fulfill an assigned role as part of the project team with a specific number of hours budgeted for completion of their activities.  Responsible for responding to multiple client requests for ad hoc data analysis, strategy determination and coaching.  The Associate Consultant will be responsible for learning the information system tools available for analysis (via data proprietary to MedAssets and publicly available data) in order to respond to client requests.
    * Interaction with other MedAssets staff.  In the performance of client engagements, the Associate Consultant will be expected to interact productively, timely, and professionally with individual staff members or groups/units of company staff.  This staff may include analysts, consulting staff, administrative staff, subcontractors, and leadership.
    * Customer relations.  The Associate Consultant is responsible for coordinating customer relations efforts such that clients are satisfied with MedAssets’ services.  This includes appropriate and helpful interactions with clients at the client site as well as all office-based activities necessary to fulfill customer expectations of the project outcome.  Respond to client requests in a professional and timely manner.
    * Sales support.  Associate Consultants may be asked to assist in preparation of materials for sales-related activities.
    * Development and enhancement of MedAssets consulting and data capabilities.  The Associate Consultant may be asked to assist in the development of new product lines and services and/or enhancement of core consulting and data capabilities.
    * Gain competency at a more Senior Consultant level so that the Associate Consultant can provide training and mentorship to other Consultants as needed.
    * Other responsibilities.  The Associate Consultant may be assigned other strategic and/or operational consulting responsibilities from time to time to support the business.

  Minimum Qualifications & Competencies:

    * Bachelor’s degree required.  Adanced degree or MBA degree candidate strongly preferred.
    * Knowledge of general business practices and terminology required.  Knowledge of healthcare terminology preferred but not required.
    * 1-2 years experience working in a team environment in a business, education or healthcare setting required.
    * Ability to read, analyze, understand and interpret complex topics, financial reports, and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries, requests or complaints from clients, coworkers, or members of the business community.  Ability to effectively present and communicate information to internal and external stakeholders, including management, coworkers, and clinicians.
    * Demonstrates strong analytical and problem-solving skills, is detail-oriented, and is pro-active.
    * Able to prioritize workload to meet customer demand and is extremely organized.
    * Demonstrated ability to work in a complex, team environment that requires quick turnaround and quality output;
    * Solid knowledge of all MS Office Products, including intermediate to advanced use of MS Excel and PowerPoint.

Travel: Travel is required up to 80%.

Location:  This position requires individuals to reside in the Denver, Colorado area or be open to relocation to Denver prior to a January 2013 start date.
