Senior Manager

The Senior Manager, Lean Design functions as a multidisciplinary facilitator, manager, advisor and educator to healthcare clients seeking to create an operationally efficient, healing healthcare environment using Lean Design principles.  This Senior Manager functions as a hands-on leader through the development of innovative operational and architectural design solutions.

Purpose:  To enhance the effectiveness of healthcare facility planning, design and operation by providing expertise and leadership with a comprehensive understanding of health systems operations, and a commitment to Lean principles and continuous process improvement, thereby creating an industry competitive edge and increasing the organization’s marketability.  

Essential Job Functions

    * Demonstrates knowledge Lean philosophies, principles, and tools in daily work life and client engagements
    * Collaborates with architectural design team to enhance facility planning and design development to improve end product client satisfaction
    * Analyzes architectural plans to determine compatibility of design vs. clinical usability
    * Provides feedback orally and in written format as determined by staff needs
    * Participates in organizational team meetings, providing expertise, augmenting design skills and stimulating thinking
    * Monitors assigned projects in process to ensure modifications maximize clinical efficiency and optimize productivity standards
    * Works with client’s clinical management team to assist in finalizing work environment needs, improving end product satisfaction while minimizing design rework
    * Facilitates negotiation between client and organization by identifying clinical process needs, potential problems in design, determining and evaluating potential solutions
    * Keeps abreast of technological advancements and looks for practical applications to improve processes
    * Continually works to enhance continuity and professional relationships between client clinical staff and organization staff
    * Provides input into organizational strategic planning, mission and vision, product development and market growth initiatives
    * Facilitates multidisciplinary discussions in negotiating the optimal patient experience.
    * Creates process flow chart diagrams depicting desired solutions
    * Actively participates in contract negotiation process with potential clients, ensuring ongoing availability of expertise during the design, construction, and post construction phases of the building process
    * Conducts client follow-up visit during the post construction phase to determine overall satisfaction with facility design as well as opportunities for future client needs
    * Frequent overnight travel required
    * Submits a minimum of four (4) Lean Healthcare Exchange articles annually for publication related to Lean Design content and organizational successes through innovative design concepts, health care process improvement initiatives, unique customer service enhancements, improved productivity and efficiency through architectural design, etc
    * Finds new and creative ways to enhance healthcare community relations such as actively participating in professional organizations and collaborating with the community through public speaking opportunities
    * Provides seminars to educate healthcare providers considering new construction or renovation on facilities design options, basic plan interpretation, and building clinical process into design
    * Offers consultant services to clients who desire pre-construction productivity analysis of clinical operations prior new construction or renovation on a “fee for service” basis
    * Develops and performs series of educational offerings for novice level design/support staff to improve working knowledge of Lean Healthcare Design
    * Participates as a trainer/educator in the HPP/Belmont Lean Certificate as needed
