Desktop Support Manager

Under the leadership of Chief Executive Professor Alan Ashworth FRS, we are committed to attracting, developing and retaining the best minds in the world. The post holder will be responsible for the Desktop Support service to over 1,200 users over our Sutton and Chelsea sites, managing a team of nine staff. The Desktop Manager sets purchasing standards, agrees the strategic roadmap for desktop and user systems, manages desktop security and the provisioning and decommissioning processes and is responsible for the delivery of a high quality service to our demanding user base. The post will suit a dynamic individual used to dealing with a highly demanding user base. The technology in use includes Windows and Macs often running highly specialised applications. An understanding of the needs of researchers for a flexible approach to IT solutions will be vital. Candidates should have a good track record of working in a similar role and will need to demonstrate strong leadership skills. We are seeking candidates with experience in depth, particularly in relation to ensuring quality of service and value for money from the team, balancing service quality with a commercial outlook. While the post is formally based at the ICR's Chelsea site on the Fulham Road, the candidate will also be expected to work at our Sutton site as dictated by the schedule of work. The salary will be in the range £40,725 - £47,912 p.a. dependent on skills and experience with more available for an exceptional candidate. This post also benefits from a contributory defined benefit pension scheme and generous leave entitlement.
