Editorial Coordinator

The Scripps National Spelling Bee is seeking an Editorial Coordinator. The position is responsible for coordination with a program manager as well as outside contractors and Scripps Enterprise Information Technology to produce materials used in the Scripps National Spelling Bee program from the classroom level through the national level. 

Key activities

    * Format documents and materials for use by students, schools and spelling bee organizers
    * Support the program's customer service needs
    * Support the program's event planning needs
    * Support other functions of the Bee organization on an as-needed basis
    * Perform other duties as assigned

Education and experience

    * Bachelor's degree in English, journalism or related field or equivalent years of experience
    * Four years experience in document formatting and desktop publishing
    * Four years experience in proofreading/editing
    * Four years experience in writing for business needs

Skills and abilities

    * Strong attention to detail
    * Ability to successfully manage several projects simultaneously
    * Strong Excel and Word skills
    * Ability to quickly learn custom Web-based applications
    * Comfort with technology and Internet-based research
    * Familiarity with reference work use

Additional travel and work outside official office hours: 10 to 20 days of out-of-town travel. Included in this out-of-town travel period are two weekends and a holiday that coincide with Bee Week. Work outside of official office hours is required periodically to ensure the successful administration of Bee Week and the roll-out of some word list materials.

The Scripps National Spelling Bee is the nation's largest and longest-running educational promotion, administered on a not-for-profit basis by The E.W. Scripps Company and local spelling bee sponsors in the United States, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Department of Defense Schools in Europe; also, the Bahamas, Canada, China, Ghana, Jamaica, Japan, New Zealand and South Korea.

The Scripps National Spelling Bee's purpose is to help students improve their spelling, increase their vocabularies, learn concepts, and develop correct English usage that will help them all their lives.
