Position Description:
Join Corning Incorporated Corporate Automation Control Systems group as a software and / or controls engineering intern. Design, develop, and support next generation control systems for manufacturing a broad line of products in display, telecommunication, and environmental divisions.
Job Responsibilities:
The Intern will work under the direction of a senior level engineer.
Day to Day Operations Support:
1. Create and maintain control systems used in manufacturing
2. Develop solutions and processes to improve data analysis and reliability
3. Equipment trouble-shooting
Project Development Responsibilities:
1. Insure all control systems meet Corning Safety Standards
2. Provide enabling technologies to the organization in the form of robust, cutting edge control systems
3. Enhance or replace aging control systems
4. Implementing of QC processes and procedures
5. Implement data analysis methods and tools
Travel Requirements: Some domestic travel required
Hours of work/work schedule/flextime: Monday-Friday 8-5pm

Required Education:
Obtaining BS Controls/Electrical/Computer/Software Engineering
Required Education:
Sophomore level of BS or higher (working on MS or PhD is OK)
Required Skills:
1. Basic electrical circuit design, analysis and troubleshooting
2. PLC programming (Rockwell or Siemens)
3. Industrial network technologies and protocols (DeviceNet,EtherIP, RS232/422/485,)
4. Network technologies (TCP/IP, 802.11, network switches, firewalls, terminal servers, etc.)
5. Electrical troubleshooting skills
6. Problem solving abilities
7. Good communication (oral and written)
8. Technically well rounded (fundamental, analytical and practical)
9. General Computer skills such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint Presentation, etc.
Desired Skills:
1. Process control/Machine Control
2. Embedded control systems (.NET Micro Framework, Windows CE, Android, PIC, FPGA or other)
3. Programming skills in one of the Microsoft .NET languages (VB, C#, C) and VBScript
4. Relational data concepts in SQL Server, Oracle, ADO, LINQ
5. Data analysis skills in Matlab and Relational databases
Soft Skills:
1. Ability to prepare and give presentations (required at end of internship)
2. Good interpersonal skills
3. Ability to operate in a matrix project-based organization
4. Strong technical curiosity
