Electrical Engineer

Functions: Applies electronics/electrical engineering principles to investigate, analyze, plan, design, develop, implement, test, and/or evaluate military weapon systems. Reviews and prepares electronics/electrical engineering and technical analyses, reports, change proposals, and other technical documentation. Applies electronics/electrical engineering experience to perform functions such as system integration, configuration management, quality assurance testing, acquisition and resource management, and computer software engineering. Analyzes, designs, develops, implements, tests, or evaluates automated data processing software related to engineering or functional requirements of military weapon systems, associated support systems, or management information systems. Acts as engineering team leader or supervisor, developing engineering procedures and controls, managing project efforts, and taking the lead in problem resolution. Interfaces with system or program contractors, vendors, and Government representatives regarding the technical aspects of engineering programs/projects.

Duties and responsibilities:

This position supports the Air Vehicle Modification and Instrumentation group located at the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division in Patuxent River, Maryland. The employee is responsible for comprehensive electrical systems and aircraft modification design, development, procurement, fabrication, and installation in support of Navy and DOD aircraft.  The employee will design or make modifications to existing systems and oversee installations performed by technicians. The employee works closely with project management personnel to translate test requirements into aircraft modification design tasks.   Types of projects include both small and large aircraft installations of electrical equipment and avionics systems such as radar, sensors, radios, control and display, and power distribution systems.  The employee develops electrical designs including the preparation of cable harness fabrication and installation drawings.  The employee analyzes, computes, and documents new equipment power load requirements and power distribution to verify that it is within the available electrical power capacity of the aircraft.

Qualifications
 

Experience and Training:

This position requires a mastery of advanced concepts, principles, theories, practices and techniques of aircraft design sufficient to perform state-of-the-art work in the functional area of Aircraft Electrical Modification Design.  The employee must demonstrate:

§  Extensive knowledge of electrical connectors, components, wiring, and other equipment commonly used in design of and modification of military aircraft.  Extensive knowledge of the design and installation specifications, processes, and standards required for the installation of avionic and electrical systems into military aircraft.

§  Familiarity with developing aircraft modification drawing packages and the necessary drafting/drawing practices, specifications and processes;

Clearance Requirements:

The employee will be required to obtain and maintain a secret clearance.

Education Required:
Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics or Electrical Engineering and experience in technical and project aspects of engineering.
