Senior Researcher
Job Summary:
The Senior Researcher is responsible for contributing to the development of new standards of high resolution land seismic, and addresses issues unique to North American land seismic. This strategic role develops the strategy and vision to position a project from inception through completion, and creates teams and collaborations that understand the project's direction in developing new differentiating technologies relevant to the North American marketplace.
At this level, complexities are routine in nature, as the Senior Researcher is independent in completing complex tasks from start to finish, and understands idiosyncrasies and logic in processes. This individual is often called to act as an expert in dealing with clients and academia, and is responsible for developing and maintaining professional relationships through regular interaction and communication.
This position can be located in Calgary, AB. (preferably) or Houston, TX.
Key job responsibilities:
* Develops new standards of high resolution land seismic and differentiating technologies relevant to the North American marketplace
* Develops complex geophysical techniques, performs analyses, develops conclusions, and makes recommendations
* Develops and maintains professional relationships with clients and academia
* Communicates with clients in representing the Research and Development team in specific subject areas
* Participates in internal seminars – sharing and learning with and from coworkers
* Communicates with other researchers and leaders within CGGVeritas Equipment, Land, Processing and Reservoir Services
* Publishes and presents scientific papers
* Provides direction to one direct report (Junior Researcher) and mentors Geophysical Processors with specialized and complex areas
Job requirements:
The Senior Researcher has experience with data processing and the unique issues associated with land seismic as well as experience in data acquisition theory and equipment, and in signal processing such as deconvolution or noise attenuation. Particular problems include the inclusion of topography and weathering, sparsely acquired and noisy data, land seismic and P & S wave.
Other requirements include:
* PhD in Geophysics, Physics, Mathematics or similar
* Previous experience as a Researcher
* High energy level and positive attitude; enthusiastic and energetic approach to personal and professional development and life-long learning
* Excellent work ethic; demonstrated to be dependable and trustworthy, and practices personal and professional integrity at all times; committed to professional excellence
* Analytical and creative problem solving skills; possesses imagination and creativity in problem solving
* Ability to recognize errors, troubleshoot and identify solutions independently; exceptional eye for detail
* Competent decision making skills and judgment. Ability to make sound decisions using own judgment making modifications, with senior and/or peer review
* Excellent communication and presentation skills; comfortable interacting with clients and delivering technical presentations
* Ability to work well independently as well as within a dynamic team environment
* Understands bugs and difficulties in software
* Peer reviews of work
* Programming and Processing experience is considered an asset
* Ability to travel within Canada, USA and occasionally overseas (10%)
