JOB SUMMARY
Within the Research & Development (R&D) department, the Intellectual Property (IP) team is responsible for: maintaining an IP policy within the Group; developing IP Strategies aligned with the specific needs of each Division; controlling the operations of granting procedures, via external patent law firms; the IP Intelligence function and providing IP awareness throughout the Group. This position is based in Houston, TX.
The IP activity has significantly increased within CGGVeritas, requiring the IP team to grow. This vacancy is a new position based within a Division, highly related to R&D strategy and in close cooperation with the IP team.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
* Act as a liaison among various internal teams in order to anticipate the risks and to identify the opportunities between R&D and IP within the Division.
* Strengthen the internal IP network (within the Division) of the main stakeholders and decision-makers, e.g. by disseminating IP Intelligence studies for monitoring the competition and technology trends.
* Foster, within the Division, a multi-actor, holistic management approach of its IP portfolio steered by the IP team.
* Coordinate the patentability assessment of the inventions originating from the Division.
* Participate to the definition of IP protection strategies for the technology portfolio of the Division, and further develop a sustainable alignment of such strategies with the objectives of the Division within the scope of the general policy of the Group.
* Provide support and assistance to the actions, initiated by the IP team, e.g. in terms of raising IP awareness among the Division staff.
* Review, in collaboration with the IP team, the external publications (congresses, clients, etc.) in terms of potential IP protection.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
* M.Sc., preferably with an extensive specialization and/or experience in the technical fields of one of the three Divisions.
* First exposure to IP, required.
* IP diploma (e.g. from Queen Mary, CEIPI or the like) and/or EPO and/or USPTO registration preferred.
* Experience in Patent drafting and prosecution beneficial.
* Ability to research and assimilate competitive IP landscape in various technical areas.
* Familiar with patent databases. 1-3 years of experience in an IP role similar to the present vacancy.
* First experience of at least 3 years in industry in product development, preferably with exposure to business and strategic (long-term) approach
* Ease to work in a growing department. Hands-on. Capable of working both autonomously and in team, under the supervision of the IP team.
* Analytical and synthetic skills, interest in technology, open-minded.
* Strong communication skills (oral, written), in particular regarding very technical issues involving intellectual property. Capacity to persuade various people within the R&D team and management.
* Has worked as part of an international team.
