Senior Tax Analyst


Summary of Principle Functions:

The individual filling this position will assist the Senior Tax Manager and other members of the Cliffs Natural Resources Global Tax Team with tax compliance reporting, accounting for taxes, audits & inquiries, analysis of new tax laws, regulations and court cases, as well as associated work for the client entities it serves. The individual filling this position will also assist with related administrative tasks. The work performed will be done primarily under the supervision of the Senior Tax Manager.

Specific Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

•Review / Prepare, or assist with reviewing / preparing and filing, tax returns and supporting work papers and files for Cliffs Natural Resources controlled entities and for the mines as well as foreign entities; excluding payroll taxes. This includes, but is not limited to, requesting, gathering, processing and adjusting financial information through the available personal computer software applications to effectively generate the tax returns as well as supporting work papers and files while providing a clear audit trail to source / support documentation.


•Member of Cliffs’ Tax Team primarily responsible for day-to-day documentation,
maintenance, and administration for CORPTax Software Application including
general ledger downloads and related reconciliations as well as implementation
of utilization enhancements.


•Respond, or assist with responding, to questions and issues raised by tax
authority inquiries and/or audit examinations, including preparation of tax
submissions, protests, and appeals.


•Develop, or assist with developing, projections of current and future tax
liabilities (provisions / liabilities / assets) for the client entities served
by the Tax Team. This for purposes of accounting for taxes, tax compliance
reporting, and tax planning.


•Analyze, or assist with analysis, of proposed transactions for the purpose of
identifying tax consequences; advising of material tax impacts and recommending
alternative courses of action, when appropriate.


•Determine / Review, or assist with determining / reviewing, the tax basis of
assets, entity structures, dividend flows, etc. and any related recommended
tax-savings actions.


•Analyze, or assist with analyzing, new tax laws, regulations, reporting
requirements, and court cases when reported, and implement, or assist with
implementing, those that impact the tax compliance of the entities served by the
Tax Team. Recommend, or assist with recommending changes in business practices,
when appropriate.


•Participate on quality improvement teams.


•Assist with maintaining the comprehensive tax calendar for the entities served
by the Cliffs’ Tax Team.


•Assist with maintaining the files and records of Cliffs’ Tax Team; including the
electronic index of such files and, the on-site and off-site as well as
electronic and hard copy storage of those files and records.


•Assist with registering or de-registering the entities served by Cliffs’ Tax
Team with all appropriate federal, state and local (Domestic and Foreign) tax
authorities.


•Assist with administrative tasks as required.

Education:

•Minimum of Bachelors Degree.

•A “hands-on” working knowledge of personal computers, as well as spreadsheet and
word processing software packages.

Experience:


•Minimum of 3-5 years of direct experience with the specific responsibilities
noted in this position description; big 4 public accounting experience preferred
but not required.
