Storage Architect


Opportunity Snapshot:
In this role you will be part of the rack server team defining storage architectures and technologies relevant to UCS C-series servers. We are looking for candidates who strive in a fast paced start-up like environment. We are looking for a self driven individual who can lead cross functional teams and work closely with a wide variety of internal & external engineering partners to enable them to leverage our products for their needs.

Job Requirements:
• Drive requirements and specifications for components in Cisco’s UCS C-series Rack Servers storage infrastructure.
• Able to debug and analyze complex storage stacks from hard drives up to the application layer. Includes host components such as device drivers and option ROMs as well as storage components like PCIe RAID adapters, cache layers, and JBODs.
• Evaluation of storage technologies and products (e.g. SSDs, PCIe flash). Must be able to create and run relevant storage benchmarks.
• Work through the technical issues of various storage configurations (RAID, JBODs, SSDs, internal storage, SAN) as they relate to High Availability and performance.
• Provide guidance to other teams on trade offs of different storage architectures.
• Work with third-party vendor engineering teams.

Technical Background
• Candidate must have first hand experience in the design or implementation of at portion of a storage sub-system.
• Expert knowledge of at least 1 or more of the following protocols (ATA, SCSI, iSCSI, FC, FCoE, SAS, SATA)
• Familiarity with flash technologies (MLC, eMLC, SLC)
• Hands on experience with designs leveraging PCIe and i2c.
• Working knowledge logic/protocol analyzers and debuggers.
• Knowledge of the implementation of I/O architecture of different OSes. Detailed knowledge of the I/O internals of at least one of the following OSes (Linux, Windows, Solaris, ESX, Xen)
• General knowledge of the x86 architecture and UEFI BIOS/option ROMs.
• Expert in trade-offs between different RAID options.
