Forensic Software Engineer

Some of us are great programmers. Some of us are great debuggers. Some of us are comfortable working with customers, occasionally in high-visibility situations.

Cisco has an opening on our Security Products Group Engineering Team for a great software escalation engineer. You will be working on a team to figure out WHAT WENT WRONG. You’ll serve as one of the primary technical contacts between the highest tier of Cisco Technical Support and the Security Products Group, focusing on the ASA’s firewall or VPN capabilities. Your job:

- Troubleshooting and diagnosing software problems, determining why the product is not behaving the way the customer thinks it should.
- Setting priorities for customer-reported bugs, and ensuring they get fixed.
- Providing feedback to the rest of the organization to improve the product and the customer experience.
- Occasionally working directly with a customer on particularly difficult issues.
Specific requirements:
- Strong knowledge of and experience with firewall or VPN technology (IPSec, SSL and client less VPNs, remote access, AAA, and certificates), ideally with Cisco’s ASA products.
- Very solid general networking skills, with deep knowledge of and experience with networking protocols at all levels of the protocol stack, covering architecture, design, implementation, expansion, and troubleshooting of enterprise-level secure networks.
- At least a BS in computer science or engineering, electrical engineering, information technology, or related technical field, or equivalent experience.
- At least 6-10 years of technical experience in the workforce.
- Excellent communications skills: oral and written, on the phone and in person.
Additional desirable qualifications:
- a reasonable working knowledge of programming languages such as C/C++/Objective-C, assembler language, or similar procedural language (scripting experience will also be valuable).
- CCNA, CCNP, or CCIE.
- Previous experience working with customers.
