POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Director US Commercial Excellence is responsible for developing and driving strategic initiatives that improve overall commercial efficient operations and overall effectiveness. Through the optimization of organizational and operational processes, innovative technologies, and real-time/future market insights, this person will develop and implement operational improvements that allow Celgene to maximize opportunities as well as manifest a “best in class” commercial operation. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, effective communication skills, talent for influencing without authority, an ability to be a proactive internal consultant, and influence business growth and decisions through fact-based analysis, customer insights, technical insight and market data and business knowledge.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Develop/implement the Commercial Excellence strategy by determining key areas for continuous improvement (both through the eyes of the customers as well as the organization and commercial partners) and key initiatives that will have critical business unit impact.
- Lead the review of end-end commercial processes to identify opportunities and establish programs to improve effectiveness of the organization internally and to identify areas to improve commercial effectiveness in meeting the needs of our customers
- Collaborate with IT in identifying opportunities for innovative technological initiatives for the Commercial organization by defining short-term and long-term technology platforms appropriate for commercial support and expansion; evaluate/implement new technology or technology improvements (e.g. optimizing use of the iPad, social media to improve customer connectivity) , Includes the strategic and financial evaluation of internal or external resources needed to support implementation or management of the project(s).
- Leads and ensures portfolio view of commercial initiatives to help key stakeholders and budget owners in helping them identify, prioritize and pursue the highest value driving commercial initiatives. In partnership with department leaders, map out budgetary impact of commercial-wide projects and initiatives.
- Develop process for a repository for best practices and who in the field is implementing those best practices. Implement way to share this information across both franchises to gain maximum benefit to the field force.
- Track key initiatives by monitoring progress towards meeting goals and achieving benchmarks, analyzing data and ensuring follow-through on the part of key players, and sustaining momentum needed to drive these business initiatives.
- Develop/manage a customer master database for cross-functional utilization including a repository of all physician and consumer data for the benefit of reporting, analysis and decision-making.(?)
- Partner with Market Research to analyze data related to key commercial excellence initiatives or gather data to support key initiatives. Translate key market trends/data to identify initiatives that will have a business unit impact.
- Lead commercial implementation of required reporting needs for Sunshine/Spend Transparency requirements
- Coordinate/execute field advisory board meetings; gather and share information relating to key commercial excellence initiatives or ideas relating to new commercial excellence initiatives.
- Continuous evaluation of the effectiveness and impact of key initiatives/programs and communicating results and best practices to the Commercial organization.


Skills/Knowledge Required:

- BA/BS degree required; MBA highly preferred
- 10+ years of work experience in a pharmaceutical commercial setting; preferably in a sales or operational role with demonstrated experience in leading commercial effectiveness
- Strong technical insight in leveraging technology to improve commercial effectiveness; demonstrated ability to evaluate, develop and implement commercial improvements using both internal and external technical resources; proven success in optimizing technology to achieve strategic business results
- Must have demonstrated ability to influence decision-making across a broad spectrum of business initiatives and manage large-scale complex projects and influence without direct authority.
- Ability to observe without judgment to gain critical business insights from commercial partners.
- Ability to examine business environment and develop/execute in response to business opportunities and needs.
- Ability to work collaboratively with and influence peers and management.
- Ability to think strategically and to develop and implement action plans.
- Ability to analyze data and identify key trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong presentation skills.
- Demonstrate problem-solving and decision-making skills with the ability to “think on his/her feet” and provide solutions and alternatives.
- Good leadership abilities and a positive attitude.
- Ability to coordinate multiple assignments and meetings simultaneously; strong organizational skills.
- Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint knowledge required.
