Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Treasurer, the Director, Asset Management will oversee and manage various pension plan assets relative to the respective liabilities by evaluating and determining investment risk and return objectives, analyzing and implementing investment strategies and performing regulatory compliance for Celanese.  Global assets under management are in excess of $2.5 billion and include pension, defined contribution and non-qualified plans. Position will have primary responsibility for consultant and manager evaluation and selection, risk management, and performance reporting.
Qualifications:

    * A successful track record that includes setting strategy, creating vision, driving results, developing and leveraging relationships and being persuasive in pursuing the required business objectives.
    * Strong interest for the investment markets and acumen to consider and understand the management of a broad range of asset classes including equity, fixed income, and international securities.
    * A broad perspective and long-term view with an understanding regarding the management assets in relation to prospective liabilities.
    * Setting strategy:  A strategic thinker with broad knowledge of the global capital markets who brings a deep understanding of asset allocation and pension management issues.  It will be important for a candidate to have specific experience in:
    * Overseeing pension and savings plan assets with knowledge of ERISA requirements, particularly with respect to funding;
    * Asset allocation
    * Asset/liability matching/hedging strategies;
    * Asset diversification across a broad range of asset classes;
    * GAAP pension accounting;
    * Risk management.
    * Driving results:  Demonstrated ability to implement an investment policy and be accountable for its performance over time.
    * Leadership and judgment:  Demonstrated leadership and decision-making skills and experience managing a group of investment professionals across a broad range of investment classes.
    * Executing for results:  Experience managing outside investment managers with a track record of holding accountable internal staff and third-party management.
    * Breadth:  Knowledge of various asset classes including domestic and international equity and fixed income, as well as a range of non-traditional, alternative investment strategies.
    * Building relationships and using influence:  Ability to work effectively in a collegial environment with an Investment Committee and external advisors.
    * Communication skills:  Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to clearly convey complex topics in a manner appropriate for multiple constituencies, including senior executives, Investment Committee and external service providers.
    * Personal style and interpersonal skills:  A quietly assertive individual with superb listening skills, the ability to “push back” when appropriate and function in a team-oriented culture.

      Desired Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
    * Create a vision and manage an internal organization and investment structure through the implementation of an effective and logical investment philosophy, process, and policy based on the company’s current and future needs.
    * Utilize the understanding of macro and micro economic issues to develop and articulate Celanese’s investment strategy and view of the economy, markets, and global issues to internal and external stakeholders.
    * Monitor and assess the investment strategies including policy guidelines, asset allocation strategy, and risk management parameters of externally managed investments.
    * Optimize the investment performance of plan assets within a framework, which takes into consideration;
    * Benchmarks (relative performance);
    * Risk parameters;
    * Asset allocation constraints;
    * Asset/liability matching.
    * Review, interpret and record the investment results and make recommendations on investment strategies on an ongoing basis.
    * Shape and formulate the governance model and best practices in investing to form policies that maintain Celanese’s financial security and soundness, and that will meet regulatory standards.
    * Report regularly to the Investment Committee/s, as an investment thought leader that brings new ideas and discussion topics, on investment performance and all other matters pertaining to the investment function.
    * Analyze relevant accounting and tax policies and determine financial impact on investment assets.
    * Establish effective working relationships with, and assume responsibility for, the on-going review and evaluation of the consultants, asset managers, and make recommendations on selection/termination decisions relative to these activities to achieve stated financial goals and objectives.
    * Manage trustee, investment manager, actuarial and consultant relationships to provide recommendations for funding strategies that reflect risk appetite in investment strategies.
    * Evaluate the detailed risk profile of investments and how the underlying assets meet the investment guidelines of investment managers.
