Process Control Engineer

Purpose and Summary of the Role:

 

To lead the implementation of process control scopes of the Methanol Unit, Project Fairway.  Major activities to include DCS selection and oversight during all phases of implementation, participation in process safety arena and lead of process control aspects of process safety areas of project.

 

Individual will be assigned to support Fairway project full time reporting to the Project Manager through startup 3rd Qtr 2015.  At that time individual will transfer to CL Technical Department.

 

•  Reviews  Basic and Detailed engineering work involving Instrumentation/Automation with the contractors and Plant representatives while in consultation with Contract Automation Engineers.

•  Review detail of Automation Systems Technical Specifications in consultation with Project Engineer & Contract Automation Engineer prior to placing orders by Contractor.

•  Reviews Automation Engineering activities with Contractor & Automation Engineer and to ensure that they are as per the agreed Technical Specifications.

•  Assists in Carrying out necessary engineering liaison functions related to Power distribution, controls, etc.

•  Assist in finalization of layout and review of specification of Instrumentation/Automation system in consultation with respective Project Engineers.

 

Construction & Close out Stage:

•  Monitoring commissioning activities of automation system in coordination with Contractor and core team and report deviations if any to the respective Project Engineers.

•  Technical & project related coordination with Technology Supplier of Instrumentation / Automation and respective Project Engineers.

•  Actively participates in Factory Acceptance Test and Site Acceptance Test of Automation systems, to ensure that the new technology is transferred and accepted.

•  Assist Plant teams in testing and commissioning of Instrumentation /Automation equipment / systems.

•  Follow up with technology supplier to ensure the availability of updated instrumentation and automation documentation.

•  Assist Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR).

•  Assist, witness, and record the commissioning and testing of the Instrumentation / Automation systems and equipment, ensuring the parameters are as per the contract values.

•  Final closeout/handover of Instrumentation/ Automation Documents.
Qualifications:

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

 

    *
      Candidates MUST have a BS degree in Chemical Engineering and at least 7 years experience as a Process Control Engineer in a chemical or refinery plant
    *
      Hands on experience working with DCS hardware and software, PLCs and data historians in a chemical plant or refinery
    *
      Working knowledge of chemical and utility processes (e.g. Reactions, Distillation, Boiler)
    *
      Chemical engineering analysis
    *
      Process modeling and optimization
    *
      Control theory and application
    *
      Working knowledge of computer programming
    *
      Working knowledge of modern instrumentation and analyzers
    *
      Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    *
      Strong ability to multi-task and work in a self-directed manner
    * Ability to Work as Self Directed Individual or in a team based environment

 

 

Desired Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

 

    *
      Process or production engineering experience in a chemical plant or refinery
    *
      Advanced regulatory process control design, specification, implementation, commissioning, and / or maintenance experience
    *
      Advanced control theory
    *
      Advanced statistical analysis
    *
      Digital system design
    *
      Experience with configuration and setup of computer networks
    *
      Experience with Honeywell and / or Emerson control systems
    *
      Successful implementation of Six Sigma methodology
    *
      Self-motivated with ability to originate and adapt to new ideas
    *
      Excellent  written and verbal communication skills
    * Working Knowledge of SAP
