Principal Mechanical Engineer

Accountabilities

    * Interact with Design Engineers to influence new product designs for design for moldability for both our Infusion and Dispensing portfolio of products
    * Plastics Injection molded tool design review to insure tool design is capable of producing high quality parts.
    * Write injection molding validation protocols using scientific injection molding principles, and follow up on protocols approvals.
    * Review and summarize molding validation data from suppliers, write validation reports and follow up with the appropriate personnel on approvals.
    * Plastic part design review to make sure it meets recommended design practices.
    * Review drawings for tolerance to insure that they meet industry standards.
    * Perform tolerance analysis to insure no interference between parts.
    * Plastics material selection experience is a plus.
    * Mold flow and warp analysis to include part fill, sink, weld lines analysis, and optimization of gate location is a plus.
    * Review injection molding design of experiments, viscosity study, gate freeze study, CPK, and inspection data, discuss out of spec dimensions with the engineers and tool makers, so that corrective action can be implemented.
    * Perform material strength analysis with FEA results, and recommend alternate design solutions is a plus
    * Review rubber part design and over mold considerations.
    * Review assembly design for ease of manufacturability (DFMA).
    * Work with a molding supplier, manage the design and build of new plastic injection molds.
    * Work with Suppliers on managing tooling inventory and condition, to proactively plan for tool maintenance and replacement.
    * Ability to manage multiple projects, and to develop and maintain project schedules.
    * Work with Suppliers, establish and validate secondary operations processes to provide capable processes.

Process Engineering is responsible for analyzing and assessing supplier and in-house processes to determine process capability. Identify and drive process improvements. Support supplier assessment and selection process. Directs external resources / contractors as required
 
What is expected of you for success in your role

    * Demonstrates advanced knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma processes and techniques in accordance with GMP's
    * Independently analyzes moderately-complex technical process problems and implements resolution
    * Independently performs moderately-complex process capability studies and process optimization
    * Independently assesses moderately-complex supplier processes and performs supplier audits and selection
    * Mentors external resource/contractors as required

Qualifications
 

    * Bachelor's degree in related field required. Mechanical Engineer preferred.
    * A minimum of 5-7+ years related work experience required.
    * Ability to train and coach others from technical expertise.
    * "Hands on" experience in plastics processing utilizing principles of scientific injection molding and DOEs is a plus.
    * Design for Moldability experience.
    * "Hands on" experience with secondary operations such as ultrasonic welding of inserts is a plus.
    * Tool design review experience is a plus.
    * Knowledge of extrusion and blow molding, twin sheet thermoforming and compression molding are a plus.
