Compliance Specialist

Responsible for monitoring regulatory requirements affecting the company and for assessing risk, developing, implementing and administering the Company’s Compliance Management Program.  With knowledge of governmental and financial regulations and laws including regulations relating to mortgage lending, deposits and consumer lending, work with the Chief Compliance Officer to assure compliance across the company.  Participate in various committees, audits and examinations.  Also responsible for ensuring through education, surveillance, enforcement and resolution of controversies, that the corporation and its employees comply with the various laws, rules and policies and ethical standards governing the financial services industry.

 

 
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

1.       Monitor changes and new regulatory requirements affecting the company and ensure that policies and procedures are in compliance

2.       Monitor and enforce company and employee compliance with federal, state and self-regulatory laws and rules and with the corporation’s internal policies.

3.       Investigate and resolve customer complaints, lawsuits and arbitration proceedings.

4.       Coordinate Community Reinvestment Act compliance efforts including maintaining the public file, reviewing and qualifying community development loans, monitoring and tracking compliance and completing self assessments

5.       Analyze HMDA and CRA loan activity

6.       Coordinate GLBA compliance to include annual notification process

7.       Provide education and updates to employees of the company on regulatory issues

8.       Manage the compliance training process to include recommending types of training and tracking

9.       Manage the corporate policy review and approval process

10.    Respond to inquiries from company employees regarding compliance and related issues.

11.    Respond to inquiries from various regulatory agencies with respect to investigations, customer complaints, routine surveillance and other compliance related matters.

12.    Review and analyze new products, services and processes for regulatory compliance

13.    Review advertising, web sites, and other marketing collateral for regulatory compliance

14.    Create and review agreements and disclosures for regulatory compliance

15.    Review operational procedures and conduct independent testing on compliance related matters

16.    Collect and review reports submitted to the department

17.    Compile data and prepare reports for management and the board

18.    Performs other duties as assigned.

 

 

 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

·         Five years of banking experience required, two of which must be involved in regulatory compliance. Needs a sound understanding of compliance regulations.

·         Knowledge of financial exposure relating to regulatory penalties associated with compliance violations.

·         Ability to properly review compliance-related materials.

 

 
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

·         Knowledge is required of general compliance regulations applicable to all credit, deposit, CRA, HMDA, BSA/AML and electronic banking products and services offered by the bank.  Must be able to read and understand legal regulations and to communicate the requirements to other bank professionals.  Must be able to apply regulatory requirements applicable to the variety of products and services offered.

·         Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.

·         Strong computer skills.

·         Independent, well organized and self-motivated.

·         Ability to interface with all departments in an effective manner.
