Interactive Designer

Capella is looking to add an Interactive Designer challenged with creating interactive content and user interfaces for Capella University's courses and websites. This Interactive Designer will be assigned to the Course Media Team whose responsibilities include interface design, instructional multimedia, usability, and ADA compliance.

Typical Activities Include:

- Create illustrations and interactive multimedia elements such as animations and simulations for Capella's courses utilizing Web Standards and Flash technologies

- Partner with instructional designers, trainers and academic support groups to understand specific objectives for learning. Provide initial concepting through storyboarding and estimates for media.

- Introduce innovative design and effectively leverage technology to deliver on instructional goals.

- Provide evaluations of third party content and partner with external vendors to implement instructionally sound media.

- Ensure that media is accessible to all groups including those with disabilities.

- Communicate status and risks to project leaders and partners.

- Provide expertise and guidance to other members of the team.

- Collaborate with usability team to test and refine designs.
    
- A two-year Associate degree in design (graphics communications, new media design) or related field or equivalent combination of experience is required. Bachelor's degree is strongly preferred.

- 3 or more years of media design and development experience from concept to delivery, with a proven track record of meeting deadlines.

- Excellent concepting, graphic design and typography skills. Experience in optimizing graphics and media for the web.

- Strong understanding of user-centered design and usability to deliver intuitive interactives and media.

- Advanced skills in Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, After Effects, PowerPoint, Articulate Studio, HTML and CSS.

- Experience with XML, JavaScript and jQuery preferred.

- Understanding of instructional design principles a plus.

- Strong prioritization and time management skills to balance multiple demands. Ability to grasp new concepts quickly, an extreme attention to detail, strong communication skills.
