Process Engineer
THE OPPORTUNITY:
Our Horizon Oil Sands operation is expanding with project spending for 2012 forecasted at approximately $1.55 billion with future projected spending of approximately $2 - 2.5 billion each year for the next several years.
Help us to minimize our environmental impact as part of our Mature Fine Tailings (MFT) Engineering team. Our aim is to pioneer cutting edge technologies to reduce our tailings output and increase our ability to reclaim tailings materials. The innovation of our Engineers in this area enables us to increase the sustainability of our oil sands operations whilst working to maintain our compliance within the complex regulatory landscape that exists in this area.
The Process Engineer will be responsible for coordinating all process related aspects through Engineering Design Specification, Detailed Engineering, Procurement and Construction phases for Tailings reduction projects to be implemented in support of Horizon Oil Sands Phase 2/3 growth activities.
• Coordinate EPC efforts with respect to Process requirements related to tailings pipelines, booster pump houses, gland water supply, utilities and underground piping, any and all piping tie-ins for tailings projects
• Interface with Horizon Site Process Engineering, Operations and Maintenance personnel to ensure that plant needs are taken into consideration within the design
• Ensure design meets applicable plant standards
• Participate in development of Pre-commissioning and Commissioning Plans to ensure effective transition from project design and construction to reliable plant operation
• Ensure safety in design
HOW WILL YOU MAKE YOUR MARK?
• Work with respective Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) Process Engineering personnel in development of process design criteria, process flow diagrams, Instrumentation and Control Diagrams, heat and material balances, definition of battery limits and battery limit conditions
• Review all process design documentation and calculations produced by EPC contractor(s) in development of the work
• Interface with site and project personnel as required to ensure design intent meets plant needs
• Recommend design changes or improvements based on knowledge, experience and input from site personnel
• Coordinate site process information gathering, e.g. existing process conditions
• Participate in the following:
o Formal design, model and risk reviews, Haz-Ops, Haz-Ids
o Regular engineering coordination and progress review meetings
o Systems definitions for purposes of pre-commissioning and commissioning
o Development of pre-commissioning and commissioning plans
o Coordinate and resolve issues and requests for information during pre-commissioning and commissioning activities
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Typically 7+ years of related industry experience with Chemical/Process engineering degree
• Registration or eligibility for registration with APEGGA as a Professional Engineer in Alberta
• Familiarity and understanding of:
o Transient/surge pressure conditions
o SRC PipeFlow Mod
o HYSYS, AFT Fathom and AFT Fathom Impulse
o process design
o working on Oil Sands facilities projects, particularly in Tailings or Fines capture/harvesting areas
o working with MFT (Mature Fine Tailings)
o supporting teams such as Engineering, Construction, Maintenance, Operations and EPC contractors
o managing EPC contractors
