Human Resources Manager

Overview:

A.M. Castle & Co. is currently recruiting for an HR Manager for our Oak Brook, IL location. This position is responsible for partnering with Managers and leaders across the organization in developing and executing plans that optimize organizational effectiveness. The HR Manager will be responsible for creating the Talent Acquisition strategy, planning and implementation of a global HR model; oversee labor relations at our union facilities; participate in workforce planning; coach managers and leaders on performance and change management initiatives; etc. The Human Resources Manager provides strategic HR and people management support, advice, and consultative services to business leaders enabling them to make informed business decisions. The position requires demonstrated management skills, judgment, and organizational sophistication in order to effectively support a range of clients and remain aligned with the HR strategy and goals for the corporation. LOCAL CANDIDATES PREFERRED.

Responsibilities:
•Participate in setting the strategy for building a global HR organization. This includes design and planning as well as execution
•Participate in all labor activities to include labor negotiations, arbitration and conflict management, to meet company and business objectives
•Manage the talent acquisition process for the organization; meeting with managers to evaluate and determine employment needs ensuring the quality of employees hired, the effectiveness of recruiting and selection techniques, and compliance with applicable federal, state and local regulations
•Build ongoing relationships with leaders and managers; supporting and implementing the strategies set by leadership team
•Ensure the people-perspective is represented in business decisions so implications are understood and the workforce is proactively managed
•Manage and implement HR policies and procedures throughout the organization to ensure consistency of application and compliance with Federal, state and local regulations
•Consult, advise, and assist managers in achieving business goals through appropriate interventions; implementing and managing HR resource solutions, programs and services with dedicated corporate resources to maximize the achievement of short and long-range business objectives
•Experience in affecting, executing, and leading change initiatives within an organization; along with strong leadership and teaming capabilities with the ability to operate independently and a track record of delivered results
•Assessing the impact of business decisions on workforce and provide solutions to optimize opportunities and mitigate any risks
•Travel: Approximately 10 – 25%
Qualifications:

•A Bachelor’s degree in HR, Organizational Development/Effectiveness, Business or related fields. Master’s degree preferred
•At least 7-10 years of HR Generalist, business partner and/or management roles with a track record of for delivering results. Knowledge of and/or experience with the Lean practices and principles a plus
•At least 5 years’ experience with union contracts, labor negotiations, arbitration and conflict resolution
•At least 5 years’ experience supporting global HR activities; involvement in planning and building a global HR model for an organization
•Must have demonstrated leadership abilities, including the capability to act as a change agent when and where appropriate; ability to execute change strategies and initiatives across multiple audiences and business functions.
•Strong coaching and consulting skills with a track record of quickly gaining credibility and partnering collaboratively with business leaders;
•Skill in exercising a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion and decision making to achieve organizational objectives; with an ability to problem solve and facilitate solutions with limited direction; Proactive style with discipline and will to set priorities, drive decisions and get closure on recommendations and issues; successfully manages multiple projects and effective at influencing across all levels
•Exceptional team leadership and personal effectiveness skills
•Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and have the insight, sensitivity, and political savvy to work effectively at all levels of the organization
•Ability to navigate through uncertainty and high degrees of change
•Adept at business and financial acumen
•Strong problem solving and analytical skills, strategic thinking and use of creativity
•Comfortable handling challenging situations with professionalism and good judgment
