Bachelor of Arts in American Studies
American studies is an interdisciplinary field focused on the study of the history, culture and literature of the United States. Students may obtain a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in American Studies in four years at a university or college. American studies programs typically integrate core disciplines such as literature, economics and political science in order to gain a comprehensive understanding of the U.S. and its citizens. Courses may be organized into areas devoted to the American political system, popular culture and history. Additional topics may touch upon American perspectives in environmental science, music, sociology, minority cultures, Native American studies and feminist studies. Some programs feature or require a capstone project that lets students conduct research into specific topics.
